Help with scammer needed

I bought an item off ebay and the buyer required bank transfer as method of payment. I paid the £100 this way over a month ago. The seller emailed me to say that payment had cleared and they would post that day - which was 3 weeks ago. Nothing received and seller not responding to emails. Do i have a leg to stand on for getting my money back? thanks

I've always considered bank transfer to be a risky method to make payment, trying to look for suppliers from abroad who all either say Western Union or Bank Transfer! Always thought theres a chance of something going wrong, awaiting responses to see if it is a trustworthy method of making payment after all!

You won't be able to reclaim it through your bank, have you tried phoning the seller? Go to ebay, click advanced search then find contact information on the left. Good luck

There is just an address, no phone number

Hmm, never known that before, theres always been a number even if its later changed to a fake as ebay won't let you open an account without entering a phone number.

You sure you're doing it right as it's neve given an address before....

Heres one I prepared earlier...

We should get groups sorted in different regions, so when this happens a group can go down to the address and sort them out

I'm afraid Ebay won't be able to get you a refund. As they only do so if you paid by Paypal.
What has worked for me in the past is to start talking about having to notify the authorities, and to report them for fraud etc. I got my money back within 24 hours. Just bombard them with scary info (police crime number, you have their address/bank details to give to police etc). Obviously might not work for your scammer but you never know. Lot of money to lose. Sorry you got stung :(

tell your bank it was a fraudulent transaction and they might be able to reverse it?

There is not a cat in hells chance of them doing that.

Ebay wont help - you didnt use their "risk free" payment method!

Best way will be to write direct to the address recorded delivery with a threat of a small claims court. If they fail to respond, take them to court. Obviously you must have their correct name details - which ebay should be able to verify for you. Make sure they also know that if you are forced to take this route, you will be adding costs to the final bill.

no harm in asking the bank though?

ebay are useless anyhow

can you not get your bank to trace the bank account holder based on the bank details as this will validate further what ebay says on the customer record. I am sure people put all sorts of **** on their dodgy ebay accounts.

Is the seller still selling other stuff on ebay?

Tried directory enquiries for the phone number based on any address you have?

the phone number requirement is relatively new i think so depends when the account was opened
