Hi, after a bit of advice anyone might be able to offer me. I currently have a sky + subscription which I took out a year ago. Now the year is up, are there any pointers anyone can offer for getting a better deal out of sky? I currently have the variety mix, kids mix and sky sports 1 which costs £27.50 per month. I want to ring up in a couple of weeks time anyway and cancel the sky sports 1 as the footie will be finished and I will have no need for this channel. I would really love sky HD, but refuse to pay £10 a month as I do not subscribe to the 'world' package and would't benefit that much. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

I recently switched from SKY to Freesat.
I previously had the basic package with lifestyle and entertainment added and was paying about £17 a month. I now receive nearly all the channels I had before but pay nothing at all!
You can receive Freesat through your existing Sky equipment and the switchover is immediate. Just give Sky a call and they can make the switch immediately.
They offered me the chance of keeping my current package for a few months for free (probably hoping I would forget to cancel at the end of the 3 months), so you might be able to negotiate some sort of saving by using the threat of Freesat if you don't want to quit Sky.

Well, do you NEED HD?
The picture on my plasma is so good I doubt if it could be much better on HD.
I certainly won't go HD for £10.

ps I don't think you get 5 on freesat which is my fave chanell.
One thing you can try...
A m8 cancelled sky and as they upgrade/cancell cards late at night, he removed his card every night and was able to watch his usual chanells for quite a while....untill he left it in one night. ;-)

Thanks for that. I didn't even know you could use the same equipment, I thought I would have to buy all new. I suppose Sky own freesat then?

I don't suppose I need HD suppose it would only be nice to watch the footie in HD, but as the season is finishing soon probably not. We have a Sony 46" LCD, I know blu-rays look fab on it, but I don't think Sky transmit in 1080 do they?

No they transmit in 780p, but its still lightyears better than standard def on sky.

Dont bother with HD for now. Sky is due to release a huge block of new HD channels in the next 6 months to a year. When these are released the HD packages will be pushed by sky big time and you'll be able to get a great deal. Remember you can get your broadband free, but you can also now get the line rental taken over by sky (never need to pay BT another penny woohoo!) I recently negotiated a half price line rental deal for 6 months with them costing me only £5 per month. I would suggest you just give them a call, speak nicely to them (as they get a lot of rubbish calls) and see what you get

Chances are they will waive the £10 charge in the next 12months like the did with the Sky+ so I would sit tight.

Threatening to cancel shouting etc. does nothing Sky are bored with it, they give nothing anymore maybe the odd 3mnth free movies but thats it, no loyalty nothing... I hate SKY but I hate them slighlty less than TV Licence People and I am stuck with them also. ho hum :x
