m8 get a cash passport google it and load the turkish lira onto it , means you have no money to carry or travellers cheques to carry
can pay in restaurants with the card like a mastercard and do all the usual things with it withdraw from most of the banks and so , we had it last year in marmaris and was excellent

You have to pay for a cash passport and there is a commision charge every time you load currency on to it. I would take some Lira but mainly dollars.

Great idea but I dont think that you can put lira on it, just major currencies like the euro £ $.

Having said that 99% of places will accept euros, (change usually given in lira),so I suggest you take a few hundred lira just in case then use euro for restaurants and purchases.

Don't forget you need a £10 note for entry visa

never had to pay for my cash passport that i got at trvelex desk at airport and never been charged to reload it at any time

get gb pounds card and just withdraw as you do at home and when you at turkey it puts it into lira
soz yes was charged 2 99 for loading 1000 pounds into 2045 turk lira not much is it for piece of mind and not carrying cash or cheques

They sound like prepaid credit cards only worse. The fees are pretty heavy.

Ex

Merchant transactions and ATM withdrawals in a currency other than the currency of the Card will be exchanged to the currency on the Card at an exchange rate determined by Visa on the day the transaction is processed, increased by 5.75% for all currencies.

I wouldn't take dollars or euro, because that way you are potentially being charged twice for converting your money into lira. Probably best to take sterling if you really want to or for future reference get a Nationwide Debit Card.

Either that or just exchange into lira over here and pay the charges.

travelex at an airport :w00t:

complete ripoff. you got done for about 200 lira with that exchange rate

1,000.00 GBP = 2,242.55 TRY

just take a nationwide debit card as you get forex rates

Just come back from Turkey and they are prepared to take anything as long as its money! The pound is quite strong. I took 200 Turkish Lira over and withdrew the remainder in GBP at cashpoints and swappend over in Turkey to Turkish Lira at about 2.28 Turkish Lira to the £. (was charged £2 for £100 withdrawls at cash machines)

PS Dont buy drinks at Turkish Airports! 500ml Coke 10 Turkish Lira! (The security will not allow you to take drinks into the airport though!)
