You're doing it wrong

Plug it back in the way you got it and remove the 16gb partition from the same place in setting you put i there as in the New usb section of the memory setting

Memory / Memory Unit then

Press Y for Device Options ( and choose remove xbox 360 storage)

Yopu got a transfer disc ? is that what you want to do eg transfer your 20gig hard drive content to your new 120 gig hard drive ?

Or if you just want to format it connect it directly to the 360 you want to use it on and format it from system memory menu and pres Y on your hard drive and choose format

http://gamecheats.xploder.net/xbox-360-chat/47095-transfer-20gb-120gb-without-disc.html

there is a link to the disc in there somewhere I think not sure if it exists or works but google it anyways if gone.

Not sure if you have a 16gb flash pen say and transfer content from your 20gig 360 to the 16gb pen then from 16gb to 120.. DRM might stop you or some other technical issue. . I assume M$ added this feature to allow content transfer ..well A move rather than a copy but still.

If its game saves etc sand stuff and not lots of dlc you could get away with 2-8 gig pen.

If it worked you may still need to transfer teh licenses across manually via the website. (you can only do this once per year)

You need to dump sector 16 from your xbox hard drive,( if it is still intact ) then restore a working formatted image, then reinsert sector 16

Use something like xplorer360

Depends on what level of format you did, but i would stop what you are doing and get someone to guide you through the process of using a hex editor in raw drive reading mode, to try and salvage sector 16 from your xbox hard disk. if that has been wiped, the drive is no longer useful as an xbox 360 drive

^thats not the problem

They have a 20gb hard drive they want to transfer contents over to 120. they formatted 120 via the usb option in 360 memory settings eg using a USB drive as external storage option to 16gig ..

They just need to undo that in the same place then use the transfer kit to copy 20gig content to 120 but they do not have the transfer DVD.

They bought transfer kit from EBAY

Unless of course formatting setting up a 360 drive to use as new 16gig storage destroys the drive which I would hope M$ put something in place to stop a user achieving

Edit actually I know they want to transfer stuff across (I think lol) I just don't know how many hds they have

So you may have a point Jay if 360 memory device undo option does not do it's job properly

If that is the problem and the memory setting s on 360 cannot put the drive back (as in the undo option) then you should read a few bits of info like this

http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/topic/187507-how-to-upgrade-your-hdd-to-250gb-noob-friendly/ which should bring you upto speed with files needed to at least get near it.

$$ being destroyed may be put back if you had a genuine kit with disc (if the hd you are transferring from is intact) not sure the software may halt telling you it cannot find drive (the 120gig)

lets hope he can undo it, as that link you posted is for western digi drives, and will not work on a retail hdd, including the security sector downloads

The link was for a 250gig drive and just for info/reference ONLY so as to show what they would be up against trying to go down that road

Either way if that destroys a genuine 360 Hard drive M$ should be slapped as there are many users that might have attempted to do this and there should have been something in place to stop it even getting that far
