HELP! XBOX 360 HDMI not working on my TV

I bought the amazon xbox 360 deal and set it up last night. when connecting using the A/V Cable provided i get picture and sound so can play. The Problem i'm having is when connecting using HDMI i get no signal. I've used 2 different hdmi leads and still the same. These leads do work as i connect my laptop via hdmi to my TV. When the hdmi is connected with only the tv on i get no signal, i then switch the xbox on and the no signal disappears but still got a blank blue screen. My TV is low spec techsonic 26" LCD which supports 1080i. There are no settings to change for the HDMI on my TV as i have looked through the manual. can anyone help with this as i dont really want to buy a new tv yet?

I take it you have set the xbox to hdmi?
#2
If you had a PS3 then you would hold the power button down for a few seconds until it beeps when switching it on, it then finds the optimum resolution to display. not sure if the 360 would have this feature?

If you've used 2 different HDMI leads, and set the Xbox to the correct mode, have you tried connecting another HDMI device to the same TV slot? If that doesn't work, do a bit of research, and if you don't get any joy, send it back.

Are you changing the input on the television?

If you have it in component/scart mode then plug in a HDMI cable it won't display on the TV until you turn it over to HDMI mode.

the new AV socket on the Xbox prevents you from plugging in a HDMI cable at the same time

yeh the av cable that came with it has a piece of plastic which covers the hdmi slot on the xbox when its plugged in. so can only have one cable plugged in at once

put it on standard so you get the dashboard up go to system settings then display change it to 1080i if thats what you say your tv supports or 720p then shutdown plug in your hdmi lead and see if that works
#11
Lord knows why Microsoft put the AV and HDMI sockets so close together.

My Elite is the same, which means having to buy a separate peripheral to circumvent it, or butcher the AV plug.

it doesnt allow me to configure the hd settings in the xbox system settings. the option is there but its greyed and says connect a hdmi cable to configure. but as i cant get a picture from hdmi i wont be able to configure it

have you got component hdmi av cable?
wasnt there an update for the xbox recently did you xbox update and then tried out hdmi
maybe format the xbox to get rid of the update i doubt its that but worth a go it seems likely to be a tv problem as when you plug the hdmi in it should auto change the display settings on the xbox for you

when i turned on the system for the first time i updated whatever it asked me to. i am using the component cable (red, white, yellow connectors) that came with the xbox and have 2 normal hdmi cables
#16
do you have component hdmi on your tv it will have the three cables you said plus a blue and green?
#17
nope just normal component unfortunately. TV is about 4 - 5 years old and was budget back then so not the best tbh

Thats a component & composite cable. OP is getting confused with the red/white/yellow cable which is just a composite cable.

YES! GOT IT WORKING

i tried it on my mums tv via hdmi. went into the hd settings on xbox and the only option i could select was 480p which is not hd, all the other hd modes were greyed out which is strange cos the tv supports 720p. anyway having selected the 480p i then unplugged and put back on my tv via hdmi, it then gave a terrible piture via hdmi, went into settings, changed it to 1080i and its now working. thanks for all the advice everyone!

1080i=1980*520=1029600 pixels per refresh
720p=1280*720= 921600 pixels per refresh

1080i and 720p are very close in their data requirements per frame. i will try both and see what i think looks best! cheers

its the i and the p that make the difference

No such thing as Component HDMI, it's just component, normal component can do HD no problem.
