Sure, I'd also have liked to see it included as a 'demo' of sorts of the possibilities that the system allows - but the thing is, it it were, we'd undoubtedly then get people complaining about not wanting it and preferring just to pay less and not get it as a pack-in. Ultimately, there's no way that everyone will be happy,

Well, 1-2 Switch is basically a compilation of tech-demos and the RRP of £39.99 is pretty much a ripoff. It's just not worth it. Even Nintendo Land was better.

I've no intention of buying it, though I do see at least some value to it. My point is, if it were included, people would instead complain on the basis of not wanting part of their purchase price to be going towards the game, on exactly the basis that you've outlined.

For people getting the Switch with the Neon Joy-Con's, the additional pair available are the opposite colours so you would have a pair of blue and a pair of red ;)

There should definitely be a basic game or tech demo of some kind bundled. Wii sports was what sold the Wii to the masses.

The PS2 launched 17 years ago with just a demo disc and 1 controller at a price of £299.99 using the inflation calculator on the Bank of England's website that's £455.48 in todays money. Games retailed for £30 to 40 which by todays money is £45.55 to £60.73.

In short consoles are cheaper than they were but games are about the same price.

Excited to get this as the portable console level gaming suits me perfectly. Preordered the multi coloured joy con set. I do hope more games get announced though as it is currently barren. Zelda will keep me busy until arms etc arrive but still would prefer more choice.

Hopefully we have a few treats via the online service at launch.

No Mario fleshlight this time!?

so how does this compare to the PS4 in terms of graphics power? ie 2 similar games side by side? Nintendo tend to go for features over graphics though dont they.

Expect more to be added as the year progresses, especially once we get to E3. There's also, notably, the Fire Emblem Direct scheduled for this week.

All new consoles launch with a shallow library. Even the PS4 launch lineup was really bad and that seems to be doing alright now.

Hmm, I thought there would be more than that. e.g. Yooka-Laylee has been confirmed for Switch but isn't listed

Yep, it has indeed, though somewhat informally. Nintendo's site is just reflecting what we saw in the presentation Friday morning - as noted above, we can expect to see updates as the year progresses.

If thats how they are going to sell it the thing really is going to go down like a kead balloon, so the box listing is switch is the handheld thing and the home bit is just called a dock.

So people will look at it and think why am i spending nearly £300 on a handheld

I can't find the link and it offered not evidence but one of the major tech/gaming review sites "claimed" it was on par with a PS3 in terms of raw power. From what I've read it seems more like a mini Nvidia Shield K1 tablet with some fancy joysticks.

Bomberman? Why don't they just stop regurgitating this old crap. This is supposed to be a next gen console.

They should have offered it as a free download (to avoid costs) but you are correct, someone will always be upset. :D

I'm completely underwhelmed by the release line up. I'm tempted to cancel my pre-order and just buy Zelda on the Wii U.
#28
I estimate this will be somewhere between Xbox 360 and the WiiU, in terms of graphics power!
it's just a tablet with controllers that slide into it, and not worth PS4 money! Nintendo have lost the plot!

With the amount of misinformation flying around, they could look it up and still find a posting backing them lol.

Getting this console personally because it's what would use and find value in. Happy to pay this price to get console level nintendo games on the go. I have ps4 for all my other gaming needs.

I wouldn't touch a PS4 with a barge pole especially that excuse of a upgrade "pro" but the Switch is definitely worth the money.

You think it will be less powerful then Wii U?

I find that hard to believe.
#33
Equal to or less powerful yes, they can't make it more powerful than a WiiU surely their would be inadequate cooling in tablet form for the GPU and not enough power from a battery to feed a good cpu/gpu!

it's gonna be like Nintendo 3DS in tablet form with a bit more power ( it even takes the same cartridges doesn't it?) its not a proper console offering that's my theory! the

Both CPUs and, especially, GPUs, have improved considerably from the Wii U's release - while we don't yet have details of the exact specification, this should be easily feasible, particularly when running on AC power so that the system's not being underclocked.

The Switch uses cartridges, yes, but not the same format as those for the 3DS.

You may find it helpful to read up on some of the more recent news postings on dedicated gaming sites - although some details are still limited, we know a lot more about the Switch than you seem to think; certainly enough that there's no need to be creating "estimations" or "theories" about some of the things that you are doing.

I still have my preorder and I am on the fence about buying this still.. I do want to play Zelda very badly.. :/ but I could buy it on Wii U.. the £59.99 is putting me off, hopefully its a placeholder price and will drop.

I really can't see it worth buying a machine for especially if you have a Wii U.
I guess it depends how much you care about resolution & frame rates, but to me the art style is such that the resolution won't matter so much. Plus it is cheaper on the Wii U.

But hey, you pays your money and you takes your choice...
