Well I just got home this afternoon after being stranded in Tunisia since Saturday!
We had booked an all inclusive for 2 weeks through lowcostholidays.
When our flight home was cancelled the rep told us to stay in the same hotel so we would be able to get the transfer to the airport. The hotel then decided we would have to pay £250 per night (although the following 2 nights they dropped it to £100 pn).
Our transfer company- resorthoppa.com then decided they were not going to pick us up from the hotel even though we paid £135 for transfers. No reason was given for this & the rep just told us to get a taxi (another £125).
In the end we flew to Paris Wednesday morning, hired a car (250 euros) & drove to Calais. When we got there in the afternoon we took one look at the chaos & went to a hotel. When we went back to the port first thing this morning there were no queues & we breezed straight through. At Dover we hired another car for £90 (nationalexpress would have been £70) & finally got home this afternoon.

well you could look at it like that, or you could think one day when you look back you can say that you were part of the 2010 volcano crisis, part of history, when all planes were grounded! try and add a positive spin to it:thumbsup:

What have folk done that just havent access to any more cash. I am sure I am like most - spend the lot when I am away plus I dont have any credit cards. Personally I could call family - but what have these folk who have no one to contact done?

Learn to manage their money better and not spend beyong their means. I don't get why people insist on living on the edge of having no money.

You don't get it do you? These people haven't spent beyond their means. They went on holiday and took their spending money. They spent their spending money, not expecting to be stranded where they were for an extra week or more. BB was asking about those who didn't have anyone they could call to send them more money and what they did in that situation.

Yes that exactly what I was asking! When I go abroad I dont have any credit cards - just my travel money - but if I was stranded like this OP and the thousands of others, and didnt have my family to call on - what on earth would happen.

Must have been a complete nightmare for all these people

Its true some people didn't have access to money, luckily I always carry a spare credit card on holiday so I was OK, but I was annoyed that the rep just expected us to fork out £125 for a transfer we'd already paid for before the holiday. If we hadnt had the money we'd have been stuck 2 hours from the airport...
