turns out he thought he was offering to go out and buy fish suppers for his ukranian friends and the translator wrongly translated "salt and vinegar?" as "gimme 300k and I will throw a match for you"

easy mistake to make really

Source?

reporter just walked out of tribunal to give the info to sky news

A bit like Wayne Rooney when he was walking off from the pitch after the World Cup game “Nice to see your home fans booing you. That's loyal supporters for you." I wonder if he knows what a loyal husband means?

inb4 the hate-lol! Im disappointed in him -he cant need the money-he pleaded with fans to wait til the tribunal and they would see he was innocent and he walks straight in,sits down with his manager and admits it! Their opening statement stated that they completely accept the news of the world claims and that every word printed in the paper was true! after months of saying it was lies! shocking!

Any of the bigger sports out there untarnished?

Cricket
Rugby
Snooker
Athletics
F1 all seem to be done for

Footy seems fairly ok atm and the only other ones I can think of are darts and golf.

Any one man sports I can't take seriously these days.

Any cheaters should be an instant lifetime ban with all their titles and prize money returned leaving them with nothing (other than what they made out of the betting)

Actually F1 is probably not quite as bad since it is generally made clear when it happens!

Apart from the governing body being under investigation

And is walking around a table hitting balls with a stick really a sport anyway??

More personal skill than eleven guys kicking a ball around a field.

Sport is doomed if this continues.

A Surgeon has a high level of personal skill too, but that doesn't make what he/she does a sport either.

Reports are suggesting Sky News were wrong and Higgins hasn't admitted it. And I can't find it on the Sky News website anymore.

Higgins won't have to fix a match for a while if he sues Sky for it

yep-looks like you are right-The sky reporter ran out of the hearing and did a piece to camera stating he had admitted it-how could they get it so wrong?? besides that,if his claim is that he was intimidated and just said anything to get away from the ukraine, wonder what his explanation is for not contacting the governing body as soon as he got back to the UK?

Still not seen any evidence of this? If it were true, surely it would be all over the news...

Read the thread, Sky reported that he walked in and admitted it but those reports are wrong and the information was removed from the Sky website. So he hasn't actually admitted it

John Higgins has been found not guilty of all bribery claims made against him by the News of the World.

But at a hearing he was found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute by not reporting the illegal approach made to him to discuss throwing frames.

total joke, not guilty of bribery claims but guilty of bringing the game into disrepute. How? if he wasn't guilty of of the bribery stuff then how can he be bringing the game into disrepute.

it's whitewash and a poor attempt to sweep this under the carpet.

Basically hes been found guilty of "intentionally giving the impression to others that they were agreeing to act in breach of the betting rules" and failing to report the matter promptly to World Snooker, the game's governing body.

but NOT of match fixing.

aaah so in other words arranged to fix the outcome of frames after his manager met those shady types(reporters) in edinburgh then again in some eastern bloc country but never actually went through with it only because the whole thing was caught on video and released to the public.

So now the pakistan cricket fixer just needs to say he felt intimidated by the news of the world reporter and its all ok then?

Banned for 6 months backdated? so WHY didnt he report this as soon as he arrived back in britain?

The news of the world will go after snooker in general now because they have been made to look bad-there were allegedly other players they had evidence against at the time which they didnt name-NOTW will now burn them to the ground-count on it.

I guessed they accepted he was scared for his safety etc.

I share your POV really, despite liking the guy, but to be fair this IS different to the cricket story - in which the NOTW improved their stings by waiting until after the no balls were bowled!

Barky difference is Higgina never went through with it but the pakistan cricket players did and took the money!

From memory his manger also met with them in edinburgh and said higgins would be up for it before they jetted out to the ukraine. again plenty of time for them both to report it before heading out there.

The whole thing stinks of a whitewash and leaves a really bitter taste in the mouth.

here's a video of higgins agreeing to throw the frames, just to jog the memory. http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/video/?videoId=2160_801939&videoChannel=NOTW:News

If he felt so intimidated by people he believed to be "the russian mafia" did he seriously think that agreeing to do something for them, and then NOT doing it would be a sensible life choice?

bbc sport guy just tweeted that pat mooney, higgins manager as been banned from snooker for life.
Unless hearn has paid the guy off I doubt he'll take to being the patsy in all this lightly.
