Can the wise people of HUKD help me unravel a mystery that has bothered me of late:- What are Fog lamps on a car??? . and what are they used for? ? . I thought I knew, I thought there was a clue in the title. I thought that they were for when it was foggy!!! Obviously I am wrong with the number of vehicles that have them on irrespective of visibility or weather conditions. Has the Highway Code been updated without informing me?

Fog lamps were okay when cars only had one on the rear so you could still see when someone braked, These days they are on both sides whcih makes them indistinguishable from brake lights,Madness,

To make crappy cars look sporty/expensive.
#3
they are for people with low self-esteem
#4
+ Strangely a lot of cars like Mini's and Galaxy's have side lights where you would expect fog lights to be!

It only works if they're simultaneously humming the mission impossible theme tune also!! ;-)

they are only for use when severe weather conditions hamper your cars visability, eg, spray from heavy rain. but illegal to use them when not absolutely nessesary for your safety. (husband told me this!)

fog lamps are for when its foggy... for those who think its uber cool to have them on all the time, how cool will be the £60 fine for causing undue dazzle ..

They indicate that the driver has a very small brain as well as other diminutive parts and should be avoided.;-)
