Hitches when being paid through Paypal

My son has sold his phone and the buyer is saying that he will pay through Paypal and then pick the phone up when the payment is in. I seem to remember that people can recall Paypal payments or something like that.... Can anyone help? It just seems strange that he's paying through paypal when he's actually picking the phone up.
Thanks loads

If hes picking the phone up, tell him to do cash in hand. Theres no reason to use paypal in this cituation.

Yes he maybe trying it on , say u want cash in hand if he is picking it up , because if he uses paypal and picks it up he can claim u never sent it and get his money returned becuase u have no tracking number to provide to Paypal.

Cash on collection is the safest way. If they say they havent got funds only cash in paypal say you will wait until the balance has been transfered to his bank account so he can pay cash.

As said above Cash on collection!
You cant prove to PayPal you sent the phone...

find out why he wants to pay by paypal, it could be genuine. You could always get him to sign something upon receipt of the phone.

Thanks for all this prompt advice. Son was prepared to hand over the phone once the money was paod through paypal. However, thanks to you excellent people he has now told him that he wants either cash or he'll post if payment is through Paypal. Also, was strange that the man just happened to be in my son's area tomorrow..........
Thanks so much eveyrone - it's really appreciated

I know you have sorted it now but a buyer tried this with me. They sent me the payment via Paypal and then wanted to come and pick the phone up.

Next day the payment was removed from my account by Paypal for being fraudulent!

My son was so close to making a big mistake!

Yeah I wouldn't recommend PayPal at all to be honest. They just take money back off you, take money out of your account, set debt collectors on you at will it seems. Really poor. There's just no protection, at all.

When you receive a payment by Paypal you MUST post the item in question and
you MUST obtain proof of postage. There is nothing to stop this person picking
up the phone, returning home and logging a Paypal dispute. As you would have no
proof of postage/delivery Paypal will find in his favour and return the funds to your
buyer ( during this time the funds will be frozen in your account and you will be unable
to withdraw said monies )
I am not saying that the buyer in question WILL do this but there is nothing to stop him
from doing it. You as the buyer need to "cover your back"

PAYPAL = delivered with proof of postage ( ideally special delivery )
Collection in person = CASH only.......

Regards
