Yes, my amp is pretty good at 'guessing' the surround sound, watch something like deal or no deal and the speech comes out of the centre (some front left/right) and the music applause etc comes out of all.

Like you say not true surround sound, very few, if any, things broadcast in 5.1. Still sounds better than any TV sound though

ok mate thanks, is it best to buy a home cinema with optical connection?
#3
ive got the 7.1 and use the optical from tv, it depends on the program, some are just stereo so no 5.1 or 7.1, but most programs are 5.1.
also depends if you use a cheap system or proper system

im pretty sure that nothing on freeview is surround.

I,m buying a samsung ps50b650 and just want a decent sound , can't justify spending more on the sound system than the telly itself:oops:

I bought a second hand Sony Amp, second hand Tannoy sfx 5.1 with Sub for about £160. It sounds pretty good (well will do when it's set up right!!) I got my stuff from AV Forums, they seem to really look after their stuff on there

only paid £100 for my amp of fleabay same for my sub, which after a few arguments with rel they replaced the amp as they nusted it when i sent it back to them for repair, so now its has a brand new amp in it, dont use it much now so may be getting rid of it soon.
