So you have a budget of £500 for amp and speakers?
#2
yeah that would be my maximum but if there was a decent deal for half the price id happily take it.

There's been some decent Amp offers lately at around a little over £200, makes such as Onkyo, Sony and Yamaha and are all well regarded and rated.

What kind of speakers are you after? You got a big room? You like boxy old school speakers or more designer modern ones?

Richersounds always has some good VIP deals (free registration required to get to VIP page). You can get something decent for £500. Check specs carefully. You need the amp you chose to have audio over HDMI. Some of the older (reduced price) amps can't do this.

cheers for help thus far. i saw on here recently there was a good deal for a Onyko amp future-proofed for 3d tvs (4.1?) not that I imagine Id be changing mine anytime soon but such is the pull of having the newest/shiniest etc. my lounge isnt the largest and id prefer the speakers to be subtle so as not to impose too much. definitely prefer modern over boxy, tvs in the corner too and shelf space limited so need to figure out how to make it work best. cheers for vip richer sounds info, will explore that option more.

Try asking on AVForums.com instead, they know their stuff. Here you'll get comments like this classic from LOUGHBORO GUY: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/onkyo-dvbd606-black-blu-ray-player-/6930138)

Wow another person obsessed with a comment that has been over used 900 times. What's the obsession, it's like a little kid who just learnt their first funny joke.

I have to agree with you completely, it's getting rather pathetic over in the deals section and now it's spreading here. The guy was half right in that nobody outside of the AV world has really heard of them, they only grew in popularity in the mainstream with their HDMI/HD audio amps a couple of years back at budget prices.

I've seen far worse misinformation being passed around these very forums, not sure why Loughborough guy is being picked on. Boys and their e-penises indeed.

See this thing is noramlly right up your street to ridicule

Something along the lines of "Onkyo? An unknown brand? You're an idiot, don't post if you don't know what you're talking about" just with more grammatical errors. But as you weren't the first to pick up on it,y you have decided that it isn't funny. That seems pretty childish to me. Just saying.

I personally love my KEFs. Speaker package at Richer Sounds for £399 -

KEFs

They're very wife friendly in terms of size and looks and sound great for the size too. It would send you right over budget with an amp too mind.

You will be best off going into Richer Sounds and tell them your budget and what you're after, you'll come out with some decent gear I'm sure no matter where they steer you.

My point was that you are much more likely to get bad advise and misinformation on the subject here than on AVForums, that post is well known illustrates the point nicely.

Although I must say I'm surprised you two (particularly you dcx) have the gall to pull anyone up for taking a joke too far given some of the things you spew out on here.

Have to agree with master_chief on the above KEF comment though, I have a set of KEF's and they're great! Although I've not heard the 1005's specifically I have heard most of the rest of the KHT range and they're all pretty good for 'style' speakers.

i must admit i had noticed the loughboro guys slating on a few different posts regarding electrical equipment and had wondered what he had said in the first place. i guess the moment you post a opinion, youre setting yourself up for an argument, and all the more so if you combine it with what appears to be arrogance.
i shall check out richer sounds.. perhaps the only things that stopped me going there thus far was going in blind knowing that if i have a max budget they and most sale people will generally find a way to reach it thus perhaps eliminating the propect of a 'deal'. i guess ultimately i want a decent sound system so i won't be losing out. i'd like to know what people here have tho or have had from experience?
