homecare british gas- what if they cant fix it ?

hi ya ,

i have a homecare agreement with british gas - they are here trying to fix my boiler but they can't fix it - so what happens now ? The house has no heating / hotwater and it's freezing and it's been a couple of days . Do they give you a heater or something to help out ? as I can't stay in the house with it being this cold as I have arthritis, and I dont have any relatives / friends to go to - I'm wondering to go and buy a couple of heaters
so what happens now - do they just leave you like this ?

a bit late in the day now, their record from taking out the policy will show a date from when they 1st came out, well mine did

Get on the phone, right now and tell them......they will sort you out with heaters or whatever an you should be kept in the picture, they should not have left without telling you what was happening (and you should have demanded some answers).

What did they say about it - did you ask them?

I recently joined this, I know one fact is they will only replace a boiler if it is under 7 years old.

As Sassis says - ask the engineers, I'm sure BG have a boiler scrappage scheme in place to reduce the cost burden of a new boiler...

they will but get some other quotes - BG quoted us £4000 for a new boiler!! Got a better boiler than they were offering installed for half that with a 5year warrenty.

Pretty sure they won't replace it if it's totally gubbed then - in the terms and conditions they only replace boilers that are under 7 years old.

That said, you could say it is about 6.5 years old - how they gonna tell?

doesnt it have to have some kind of service record, also im sure boilers have an installation date somewhere

British Gas are useless from my experience. When we moved into this house (10 years ago) we took out a cover for the boiler with BG. Not long afterwards something went wrong with it and they came out, messed around with it for ages and then said they couldn't fix it! We sacked them and took out cover with Bosch instead, they came out and fixed it straight away!
If you have a Bosch boiler especially, take your cover out with Worcester Bosch and don't go near BG!

I had the opposite, rang them and they told me I had free boiler cover as a dual fuel customer, they came, fixed it all (very old boiler) and charged me £25 for the second part, as you only get one part for free.......they even provided the more expensive part as the free one.

That's based on the assumption the OP has had the cover for the life of their existing boiler however.

Get a few quote from local reputable companies who are Gas Safe registered for installing boilers - BG are known to be dear, a local guy should be able to do the job for around £2k.

no, when bg 1st come out to inspect the boiler, no matter what year, they take details of boiler installation, dont think many would think to change the date and those that would would probably to change it to when the boiler was no longer sold - lol
