Hi everyone.

Need some help please. I have 3 x Devolo Homeplugs 85mbps and have been using it for a while without any problems. I have bought the Netgear XEB1004 powerline ethernet switch (both Homeplug 1.0 compatible) (on offer from Amazon)

However when I am plugging all the plugs in, they dont seem to be working. Either I get the Devolo once to work or the Netgear once to work but never all of them on the same network!

Has anyone been successful with it? FYI I only have macs at home, so am unable to use the software provided with the Netgear Homeplugs. However I have used the Devolo software provided for macs which never recognizes the Netgear once.

Any help would be appreciated and repped!

Thanks in advance.

are they both the same chipset?

Do you have a link to models you have?

I believe that the Devolo ones use a different format to the norm, I may be wrong.

I have 2 of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-F5D4072uk-Poweline-Adaptor-Twin-Pack/dp/tech-data/B00193T0HQ/ref=de_a_smtd

which work fine with 1 of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linksys-PLS300-UK-Powerline-Extender-Ethernet/dp/tech-data/B001PIJ8WW/ref=de_a_smtd

but they all use the Intellon chipset. When I looked into it before buying I was told not to mix the chipsets but that was for 200's

this might help from avforums

Are all HomePlug versions compatible?
All 14mbs HomePlugs regardless of manufacture are compatible with each other as they all adhere to the HomePlug 1.0 standard. All 85mbs are interchangeable too as they adhere to the HomePlug 1.0 Turbo standard. HomePlug 1.0 and 1.0 Turbo are interchangeable so you can mix and match both 14 and 85mbs as well as manufacturers.

There are 2 makes of powerline chipsets. Intellon and DS2. The majority of manufactures use the Intellon chipset and adhere to the HomePlug standard and are interopable. However those that use the DS2 chipset cannot be used with Intellon based products. Phillips' HP products and Netgear's 200mbs units (HDX101) use the DS2 chipsets.

HomePlug AV (200mbs) can coexist but will not inter-operate with the HP 1.0 and 1.0 Turbo standards. This means you can have one set of HP 1.0 units and 1 set of AV units but they can't see each others kit. The manufacturers claim there is no drop in performance when mixing these but tests (on Tom's Hardware and SmallNetBuilder) indicate that performance can drop as much as 58%.

Thanks guys for the replies, I have checked the details out. They both are HomePlug 1.0 compatible. In fact they are listed on the homeplug website as being compatible to each other.

Devolo 85mbps HomePlugs x 3

Netgear XEF1004 x 2

Finally found out how to do it. Netgear give a software along with the package. Unfortunately its only Windows software. So installed windows on my mac with bootcamp and then configured all the homeplugs, finally working!

Thanks for you help guys.
