Hospital parking charges

My dad has gone into Hospital which I wasn't expecting. Thing is, it's costing me £5 every time I park there to see him and don't really not want to be seeing him if you see what I mean :-(

Is there anything I can do about this? The money doesnt matter, but I'm spent £10 yesterday (two visits) and will spend another £10 today, just on parking. No parking allowed unless you have a permit around the area.

If theres nothing I can do, will spend the money, but seems a bit rude. I'm an NHS worker, could I nick someones badge or something?!

Seems a big rip off. I'm going twice as I live closer to the hospital than mum does, so I can nip over, but then I have to drive back to pick mum up and take her.

Any advice welcome.

I think the NHS have sme kind of parking scheme.
The best thing to do is speak to them.
Hope your Dad gets better soon!

Hope your Dad gets better soon grdesign....luckily I can usually find a parking space close to a hospital and park for nowt...in fact after having my rear door window smashed (in an attempt to nick the CD player) in a hospital car park I try to avoid them.

Sorry to hear about your dad!

I agree with currychops find the nearest cheaper parking space and walk from there. Obviously i don't know your hospital but ours is in town and there are plenty of multi stories to park in which are only 5 mins walk to the hospital.

There is nothing you can do grdesign matey, our ninewells hospital charges £3.50 a day i think and you have to pay that every single time you go there.
The only thing i can suggest is parking your car outwith the hospital and walking some of the journey or get a bus from wherever you park your car, it doesnt have to be far and im sure there is well lit side streets in the area that are safe enough.
I have to do this whenever i go up to the hospital as it saves me a fortune sometimes, hope your dad gets better soon.

Sorted. Swapped my car for a newish 5 series beemer.

Reason being, this ones a GP's car and were doing a car swap for a few days. His is registered to park there for free as he's a GP. Bit naughty but he wants to have fun with my car

So thats that one sorted, perk of the job I spose when your boss is a GP and you get on well!

Thinking of stumping up the money and getting himi transfered to a private hospital anyway, will decide after I been tonight. Free parking too at the private place.

Thanks for the get well wishes.

Broomfield Hospital where I live not only charges the public @ £3.50 per 2 hours, it also makes the people who work there pay £200 for a permit so they can park there too, its own employees for christs sake, it makes the blood boil.

grdesign - hope your dads better soon pal.

Hope he gets well soon grdesign. A fiver a time is pretty steep. The maternity hospital in Belfast (where I was visiting at the weekend) only charges a quid up to 4 hours... which is fairly decent.

what a quid for up to four hours of labour!!..I know postage to Belfast is expensive but I didn't think they'd charge for that?

really not fair when visiting having to pay :(

Thanks all, I'm paying for him to go private. So going to be selling my car to fund it (eeek, love of my life that car is!) so will possibly be for sale soon! Anyone got 15k spare for a car!?

I must be mad!

FInd a house near the hospital, someone who has free space on their drive.

Offer them a quid or something to park there. If you tell them the reason your going (sick dad) they may say 'Jus use it for free'!

Well the love of your Dad proves you're not the tight git you profess....a car is just a lump of metal at the end of the day!!
