Hye People,

I recently thought of learning basic webdesign, just to start a website for the family etc. I have a domain however the thing is I am looking to buy hosting, I assume its easy to upload images/text on the site! lol But will learn that as well.

I have shortlised 2 hosting companies:

http://www.servage.com
http://www.1&1.com they have an offer for 6 months free

But I want to use a few domains on that one host....I'm looking to use servage...any recommendations?

I have been using 1&1 for over eight years and have found them to be excellent. But why not try out your creativity on the free space your ISP gives you first.

All you need is an FTP client to upload files to your site. Google FTP free. I use CuteFTP (paid for). It reality it is no different from transerring files to a USB drive, it other words, dead easy.

Sounds good. Do they put any advertising on your site?

use the forums for any issues, they are really helpful and ya may get me helping you

http://110ss.lesley.uni.cc is the server up time record ..... if your site doesn't work, check this to tell you if the server is offline etc also the forums has a message at the top saying if a server is down etc

110mb don't keep their own servers, they rent them from hosts, your server is called box16.... and is based in canada

need any help, just pm me (been with 110mb for too long  )

Thanks for the replies people

I am looking to use at least 3 domains to use the host may exceed later on. One site I want to learn how to start off a forum. BTW had a look at the FTP and looks simple! Thanks pal.

So servage no good? Just that 116MB looks good...but still when you see something for free, you do have your doubts at times.

Also do 116mb provide any of the software to help design the site as servage or 1&1 do....as 1&1 also provide free e-shopping software...which is very tempting!

no they are free hosting... they offer a free simple site builder but its pretty basic ...... but simple to noobs to use
also they offer a program that installs forums ans blogs, wiki's etc for you, you only have to fill in relevant details

110mb have been going for soo long, they are still free as they don't give out free databases (e.g less strain on the servers) you have to pay a once only fee of $10 which can be paid using paypal if your cautious

the reason its so popular as its run by 2 highly respectable comapnies, once does online marketing and advertising and the other is a paid web host.

110mb also offer free shopping cart, its called oscommerce or zencart, they are open source shopping carts, but 110mb at the moment don't offer SSL (secure encrypted websites) but this is due to be added in march (i believe)

go have a look around the forums @ www.110mb.com/forum and maybe it may sway you ......... t

they do offer free msql & fsockopen (able to recieve emails from your web sites) for regualr posters in the forums, i have been with 110mb for so long and wouldnt change ... always people on hand to help you

i really should be paid for advertising them

edit : i forgot to add they also allow you to include a domain name for free (only one so far but your allowed 5 accounts) so you can have www.thissiterocks.com but you also get a 110mb domain name e.g. http://thissiterocks.110mb.com
