Here you go - just got back from Venice :

The Metropole Hotel in Venice offers an exhilarating atmosphere created by a unique blend of candlelight, incense, music, antique furnishings and precious objects. This hotel is one of the most exclusive in Venice and has a breathtaking view of the lagoon. It also offers a delightful Oriental Café and a beautiful garden where, on summer evenings, dinner is served on white linen in a gazebo surrounded by delicate palm trees and scented jasmine trees. The luxurious, charming rooms are all furnished with original antiques. Dining at the 'Met' Restaurant is a unique experience thanks to its chef, Corrado Fasolato, who has obtained a Michelin Star with his sensational menus that are rich in personality.

Hi,
Sorry i know we have spoken by p m since this thread but i have just noticed your last question . Not sure what your budget is but if you don't fancy splashing out for a Gondola ride ( £80 if you are lucky - well over £100 otherwise ) the Water Buses or Vaporetto's are next best thing. Here is a website with links to prices etc :

Also avoid the St Marks Square area when it comes to buying food & drink. Just a 5 minute walk from there you can get an ice cream for 1 Euro & a coffee for just over 1 Euro.

IMPORTANT : Don't wait until you arrive to change your ££££'s into Euro's . 2 weeks ago they were offering 95 cents to the £. Absolute rip off. Change your Sterling at Marks & Spencer or somewhere like that for best rates. Have a great time
