Im afraid that ticking boxes doesnt really do much anymore. The fact that you can now buy email address to bulk mail message, says it all.

Also having up to date spyware and antivirus is not going to affect your email as your email is held on hotmails servers

Also people can set up messages that look like they are from argos for example, but it will go through an affiliate link which will earn them money if you buy anything

Hmm, maybe your email got leaked to an unscrupulous (excuse spelling) company which has sold your email address on as a package to other people, and then them people sell it on further and can snowball in effect.

You can block emails from certain addresses so if they are coming from a certain few addresses you can blacklist them. Either that are open a new account if you are that bothered :)

why do you not block the spam messages as they will be deleted before even reaching your account, you do this in by hotmail loging into email, clicking options, clicking more options, clicking safe and blocked senders, clicking blocked senders, then add who ever you wish to block
