Hotmail Q

Hello all

Does hotmail automatically delete ones emails if a certain amount of time has elapsed?

I created a email acc many years ago and created my PSN acc with the email. My PS3 suffered a YLOD problem so was without a ps3 for about 2 years. recently bought one again but for the life of me can't remember my username and id for my ps3 account. So needed my emails from my hotmail acc but when ive gone inside to look, it seems to have deleted stuff from years ago which I did not delete myself. It don;t help that its a USA psn account so I can't exactly give sony a phone call either.

any help or guidance anyone?

ive not used the account for years but it seems that ive got spam emails from 2010 but all the ones from years ago which still should be there, are not.

I read about a hotmail fault a few weeks ago where users mail had 'accidently' been deleted [by Microsoft]. Will see if I can find a link.

here

I should have emails going back to 2007/08/09. all are missing and ive got left is stuff from 2010. The issue is ive not used this account, meaning not even logged on for years so there is no way ive deleted anything.

My understanding of it is that if you don't log in for a long period of time (not sure how long..) then they deactivate your account. You can reactivate it but when you do all your old emails have been cleared out.

If you email support, they might be able to restore them. Wouldn't hold out much hope though

ALL emails are deleted if you dont log into the account within around a 7-10 month period.

MS are unable to restore any emails.

I have an hotmail account which i used for a domain name, which is no longer used as such, but logged in the other day to get some old payment confirmations and all gone!

Yahoo! (Mail) operate a similar policy.

After 4 months of inactivity, all e-mails are removed & cannot be recovered:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/classic/account/account-04.html

After an account is deactivated, Yahoo! can't retrieve any of the information that was formerly stored in that account, such as email and images.

I do not know what the timescale is for Hotmail (as I stopped using this service many years ago when the terms & conditions changed so that any topic discussed via Hotmail could be seen as the property of Microsoft) but from the point of view of storage capacity requirements it makes sense to remove the contents of e-mail accounts that are (considered to be) no longer being used.

fp.
