Hotukdeals Register??

after the recent bout of deals over xmas e.g left for dead 2 and more recently the Nintendo DSI, i posed the question "should you have to register to view the deals on this site?"
ok there are lots of members that are register and can get the deals! but how many are unregistered and just take take take and put no input into the site at all!!!

even if some deals where viewable, but just the latest aint would make sense.

serious?? never new that! new they got stuff of amazon and zavvi recently (so they can give away the vouchers)

but to what end? I saw a first post from a member last week and he/she had been a member since 2008...
Not everyone wants to get involved but so what.... just do your bit if you want and just be happy that someone saves a bit of money if its a good'un

suppose that would happen, but then again they should have a inactive period where the account will be cancelled if not used.

Yeah seriously, so a guest who buys a lot of stuff through the site is probably more valued than members who don't venture out of the misc / FS FT sections.

What difference would it make?

The site owner makes a fortune from people who are not members. Do you think there is the remotest possibility he would say "no thanks" to all that lovely cash because you feel members are somehow being cheated?

you dont think they do it for nothing do you? Site development / servers cost a fortune.

The site owners would lose SEO and traffic which = revenue. It is harder for search engines to spider sites if the deep links are locked
#13
Why is it fairer though? Surely the only reason you post a deal is to help out a fellow person whether it be a registered or non registered user it makes no difference. I think it would be crazy to lock the site out to non registered people.

I think deals should only appear to unregistered people after they've been posted for either 3 or 6 hours.

Seems fairer to everyone.

that seems much fairer plus that will force people to join so i can have another £2.50 voucher when we reach 300,000:)

agree with dcx...

i was a long time lurker for a good few couple of years before i registered...

I agree with dcx. Most people register to post a deal. Unregistered = never posted a deal. Its a good way of getting people to register too so more likely to play a part in the site.

happy new year everyone!
personally I have bought loads via this site which I would not have done without HUKD,
we are not all good at finding these bargains/misprices, if you start excluding those who are not registered or cant find a good bargain then the site is not going to grow. please just enjoy it, if you got a deal post it.
happy new year

here sir sorry I'm late.

If that did happen would mean less money the site would make, if it was privatised,

You just have to be quick on the cheap deals

That's why I suggested a 3 or 6 hour delay, it's enough so they still see the deals, but it also stops misprice leechers, and encourages people to join.

thats a good idea. that could work.

What exactly makes the people who have signed up any more worthy of knowing good deals than those who have not?

Whats to stop a registered member being a misprice leecher?

i think a lot of people who are members on this site are lurkers, i no i was before i joined and probs for a good year or so at that, but then the misc drew me in :p

not trying to say about who can spot them the best. pointing out that people who are not registered are not putting any input into deals or listing any. They are just taking from the site and not putting anything back in. If we all did it there wouldn't be a HOTUKDEALS?

It is true that registered members are the only ones who contribute, but it is not true that all registered members contribute, and that is the problem. There are a lot of registered members (probably the vast majority), who do not contribute. And I am not talking about those who register and never post. There are a lot of established members with lots of posts who don't contribute by posting deals either. These people are registered on the site primarily to spot deals on this site, not to post them. That, in my opinion, effectively makes them no better for the site ultimately than those who don't register at all.

The problem, if indeed a problem exists at all, is motivating people to find deals and post them, not motivating people to register, because the two are very different.
