Hourly wage at Tesco

ScottC2105ScottC2105

Can someone tell me what the current hourly wage is for someone working at Tesco? If you could be so kind as to detail the age groups I.E. 16-17, 18+ etc also...

Lastly, if you work for Tesco, are the new uniforms any good?

They are more comfortable to work in than the old ones, in my opinion.

I'm not sure if the hourly rate varies for new starters...i've been there a while and get just over £7 p/h basic rate

£6.50 something is the wage at Tesco, from september anyone under 18 will be paid the same as those over 18.
The new uniforms are a lot better, you have the choice between a shirt / blouse and a polo shirt, short of long sleeved plus get to wear combats. You can either have navy blue or red. Plus you can have body warmers and fleeces.

You get a wage rise in May, normally about 2.5%, depending on the companies performance for the year.

Depends, general assistants are paid per hour so will depend on how many hours you work,
Managers depends on how high you are up.

Night staff working 37.5 hours, as a GA can earn £1200 a month. Day staff will be slightly lower so I would say £12k a year as an estimate for 37.5 hours a week.

Managers are paid a set yearly salary, only GA's are on an hourly rate

edit: Counters Line Manager - Milton Keynes, Kingston | £22,000 - £25,000 (Depending on experience) (taken from tesco careers site)

GA > Team Leader > Line Manager > Senior Manager > Store Manager

Theres a new store opening around here creating 100s of jobs. I may jump on board as the pay doesn't sound half bad!

It says no where about managers so i presumed that it wasn't any special position just general, since the Op was asking about 16/17 age and 18+ so don't think they would be applying for a mangers job do you!

After 6 months you get 10% discount card, after a year you can buy shares & get free shares every year. In 4 years I have over £3k of shares from putting £20 a month in.
You can also progress to management quite quickly, all stores run a management scheme.

Sounds quiet awesome. Thanks for all the info. I won't be going for a management job straight away...

Can all staff get a body warmer/fleece? Would be nice to go to work in, in the winter.

EDIT: Sounds like Tesco give quite a bit more than minimum wage.

Yup, and a lot more than other supermarkets. 2 of my managers are ex asda. Just be able to put up with a lot of crap, and be able to ignore snide remarks. Some of the managers are so far up their own backsides imho.

I thought you worked as a computer nerd not a Tesco worker.

Or are you a computer nerd employed by Tesco?

No I work at Tesco a few hours a week to pay my bills, while self employed as a "nerd" the rest of the time...

Don't think you will become a manager easily without a degree in retail management.

You don't need no degrees, Tesco train you to become management material for them, which includes working in different roles in different stores. In our store, 15 people in last 3 years have started as GA's then became managemet, one of the ex GA's is now dairy manager back at our store.
Most will get farmed out to other stores as management changes a lot.
