hmmm it is bad.

Business confidence is low - Less banks giving out money thus less people spending thus businesses struggling thus lower GDP = Recession
[mod]#2
Currently the worst falling economy in the world.

It's bad, I've heard if it gets any worse we shall have to buy another one.
#4

#5

In a nutshell, yes it it bad, very. Worst recession since the 1930s and it's gonna take years to pull out of this one.

Don't worry Gordon Brown will save us...he saved the world didn't he ?? lol !

IMHO, while it will be a worse recession than the late 80s /early 90s, it will effect some far worse than others. If someone in your family loses their job or you end up losing your home it is terrible, but thousands do have their houses repocessed every month whether we are in or out of recession. However, for great swathes of the population the tangible effect may be minimal. The drop in value of your house will have significant impact on those that purchased in recent years, but only if they have to sell or re-mortgage. However, this will ultimately be good news for those hoping to get on the property ladder.

Market forces of supply and demand would have sorted this out quicker if the government had kept our money in their pocket. Badly managed banks would have gone to the wall, been bought up due to the attractive mortgage books and carried on in a leaner form.

If things look tight for you cut your cloth and economise as best you can. Alternatively, you could follow the PMs advice and spend money you have not got for the sake of the nation - priceless.

The economy may be ruined but hasnt affected me - still got a job - still buy everything i want and prices are the same -- all i hear on the news is oh the economy is in recession well it must be a limited one as its not affecting me or any of my family

Think this recession is only affecting people who work in trades - or certain shops

That's not how it works. A recession affects everyone but in different ways. People with savings suffer due to such low interest rates, people who are working will suffer as the government will claw money back into the economy through increased taxes and stealth taxes.

The knock on effect is huge. Those who are still alright get pulled into it to help those who aren't.......there are so many knock on effects that the list is endless but eventually it affects everyone from the poor to the rich.

Syzable
stealth taxes.
.

but if everyone knows its a stealth tax, really its not very stealth is it?

on a serious note, its lead me finally know what I'm going to do with my life.

I'm doing fine. infact eating out more than ever with all the 50% off offers.
#22
Im not feeling as much as most people right now but just been informed by my company that the are making there first ever lost on over 30years:-(
#23
I think it is quite bad, but also bear in mind that whilst some are being made redundant, other companies like Asda, Sky & Tesco are taking on 000's of new jobs it's just that this news only gets a small block in the paper or a quick 30 seconds on the news whilst they concentrate on all the doom and gloom instead. I know I'm more skint than I used to be but at the moment my husband still has a job and we still have a roof over our head so I HAVE to think positive, if some of us don't then we'll all be off work with depression never mind about being in one.

Just tighten your belts, don't be too frivolous and think positive. I personally don't mind paying a bit more tax at some point if it will help with things right now, something's got to be done!!
#24
Why do you say its overhyped?

Look at the unemployment statistics - increasing more and more. The government have offered out loans to the banks and other industries to bail them out and also reduced VAT to 15% (not a big issue for your private customer but a big sum overall).

Now where does this money come from? People who pay taxes! Vat will rise again, taxes will rise, councils will cut back on services, more and more companies will go out of business. There will be less jobs about, especially for the students on here - its probably the worst year to graduate in certain sectors.

It may not be noticeable straight away in your day to day activity but over time you will notice it. Unless you are very well off - in that case how come your on hotdeals looking for bargains!
