Is there anything I can do to bring the cost down. I don't have cable in my area yet.

one way is to drop the sports or one of the packs, but dropping sports would bring it down a bit

get sky broadband which is free with a subscription saves £13.99 a month :)

Cancelling the whole lot and get a multi-sat system is a good option! No more fees - wider selection...

Get Sky Talk and Sky Surf

Sky Talk Freetime - Free weekend and evening calls - £0
Sky Talk Unlimited - Free Calls (also to 20 other countries) - £5

Sky Surf Mid - 40GB Allowance at up to 8Mb - £5
Sky Surf Max - unlimited Allowance at up to 16Mb - £10
no point in talking about the base package, 2GB Allowance is pointless :D

Did your Setanta recently go up?

We got a letter saying it was going up to £12.99 (from £9.99) yet new customers were still getting it for £9.99.

Phoned up, threatened to cancel and lo & behold, back down to £9.99!

you've got to be careful with these sorts of people!

I got exactly the same, but ended up dropping the movies & two mixes ( kids & Art i think)

Now down to £38 i think + £7.50 a month for setanta as i was planning to leave them.

Possibly see about upgrading to Sky Talk with Broadband? not too sure how good this is though!

Do you have SKY HD? if so cancelling the HD subcription should reduce around £10

How many HD channels do you really watch? is it worth the extra money

Lets all leave sky and maybe they will start to drop their prices.

With the movie and sport packages there are quite a few HD channels to watch although in my opinion the best one is BBC HD (which is free). Having gotten used to watching mainly in HD now it'd be difficult to go back to watching in SD, although I do agree that Sky is expensive.

Myself I'm thinking about buying the new Humax HD PVR after Christmas and ditching Sky completely.

could we downgrade online? how and where about?

Ring Sky and tell them that you want to keep your packages but are struggling at the moment with the credit crunch! They should give you a reduced rate for a few months. They knocked off over £20 per month for three months when I did it earlier this year.

Worth a try - they can only say no!

Good luck!

Cancel the whole lot including including the TV Licence.

Upgrade to Virgins or BeUnlimited top web package and torrent/rapidshare everything.

Technically illegal the latter but you'll get more choice and it'll force copyright holders to realise there is a market out there for reasonably prices non-DRM DivX movies and tv shows via download...

looks like you are getting the broadband free anyway and from memory talktalk is a better pack than sky for Gb allowance so no saving there.
cancel sky and read books from library??

For starters get rid of the movies. You hardly get any new movies, and they just repeat the same old **** day after day. That should save you a bit to start with!
