I've just upgraded my primary hard-drive to a SSD in my dell studio 17 and I intended to put my older, bigger one into the secondary slot as storage. I've come across a problem though, the connections seem to be different. I was wondering if anybody on here could help me find a converter so i can plug it in?

I also know I will need a caddy to enclose the hard-drive, i found it on the american dell website for $10.99 but cannot find it now.

any help would be appreciated

Have you looked at the service manual? According to it there is an interconnect (they label it as the interposer) which is required for the drive connected in bay 2:

grrr you can only buy it within the US... not on the UK site either. Chatting to dell seeing if they'll make an exception

Try doing what this guy did

send an e-mail to technical support and ask them to explain to sales - exactly what you want

Dell US are great for buying pretty much any part, Dell UK are a total joke.

I'm surprised the engineer you had called to your machine gave you wrong information although as the work is subcontracted there can be variance in who you get. Most of the engineers up here know the machines extremely well, they can take them apart and get them back together extremely quickly. One engineer though couldn't even get the case open though, told Dell never to send him again.

john, mine didnt know it took him 5 minutes to take the lid off. then he told me "your cables broken it wont go back in..." "oh doesnt matter done it"

He even replaced a working part, my laptop has a knocking noise. i thought it was the hard-drive its been replaced and the noise is still happening near the fan

wow i wasnt expecting much. they've emailed me an invoice and they're willing to send it me. in total it will cost 2.99 for the actual parts and 7.00 postage + some vat. My email had gone to the manager :)

and a big plus. instead of putting my name on the order, they've decided to put my dads name and debit card on so he can pay :D RESULT
