How can it be determined that my experience of consciousness is the same as anyone else's experience of consciousness?

"What colour is your blue?" literally, how do you know that the colour I call blue, isn't what you would actually call green, and vice versa? We could all be seeing a different 7 colours of the rainbow.

Because we follow football teams, they have coloured shirts

Unless of course you are colourblind...simples

True, good point

Bit of an old one that, but no classes

i would point at something and say "what colour is that"
You would say "that is a blue wall"
I would say "yes it is a blue wall, We have established we both think it is blue"
you would say "well done
I would say " Thank you"

:P

So my idea of hot, could be your idea of cold?

(or maybe your luke warm)??
banned#9
similar to what transit said.

if i show you the colour blue and then go to Australia and show someone there the same colour they will call it blue also.

yes but whether something is hot or not is subjective

but if you asked at what temperature under normal conditions does water boil at on earth we would all say 100 degrees celcius, as that is a repeatable measurement.

if you came from outside tonight and jumped in a warm baqth your would find it hot. if you were in a sauna and jumped in the same bath at the same temperature you wouldnt think it was as hot

What if I don't have any eyes?

yes but that doesnt prove that EVERYONE in the world sees the same blue as you do.

Could we agree on what it felt like; but what it felt like to you could be different to what it felt like to me.

Like that elephant story with different people feeling a different part of the same thing

All that proves is that you have both seen something that is a colour you call blue. It doesn't mean you have both seen the same colour.

that's true but the colour blue is measurable due to the wavelengths of light that it absorbs

so the data that every eye in the world receives is the same. how each person's brain processes that data and turns it into information is different.

Have you been taking drugs???lol or maybe you need to take your drugs lol. Why are you worrying yourself with such triviality.

Arh, so you are taking a partly science approach vs. a perception type of an approach?
#18
I would of thought that shades of colours could be different though? who would know? :?

But your idea of triviality may not be someone else perception... they may see the same thing differently

it's the same colour due to the properties it holds. ie the wavelength(s) of light it absorbs and what it reflects into your eye for you to detect. that's a physical characteristic of the colour and is not up to the person's interpretation. it's the same colour you just may be wrong in the name that you give it

So what we see and feel are just electrical impulses to our brain; which can be simulated? (or fooled)

it's only a trivial problem if you have figured out or been taught the solution

Computer generated #0000FF is colour blue and this will be the same on all computers the world over depending on the deepness of the RGB

not necessarily. Where my explanation actually becomes unstuck is at "perception" the data going to everyone's brain is the same but there are endless possibilities as to what a brain can do to process that data and turn it into information for us to understand (read for us to experience)

So both perception and interpretation determins our own individual conscious experience?

your interpretation has a direct effect on your perception.
#28
I have to laugh at this thread lol, barkey and Jeezeypeeps are the only posters who actually understand this concept. Most of you lot don't get it!
#29
My *blue* may not be the same as your *blue*, but we all agree a framework for a consensual reality based on shared agreements and perceptions.

Perceptually if I jump up, the world, according to my perception, moves down and then back up but we all agree that this isn't the case and in fact we all jump up and down.
#30
use a UV Spectrometer to read the actual wavelength. . . . . then call it whatever blue you like !

Yes the solution is...don't worry about it we are all different and that's what makes us interesting!;-)
