It was started by Admin (aka Paul) back in August 2004 after his frustration at not being able to find a suitable place to discuss bargains online in order to save himself some money.

And we've grown massively ever since.

I think we used to have an about us page when we first started but it disappeared somewhere along the line. Basically as duckmagic says it was started August 2004 when I wanted a good organised ad and spam free site where people could post bargains and voucher codes as they found them. At the time there were a few sites but nothing that really put a focus on organising the information and making a useful tool as well as being impartial. As we grew the mod team grew (and we've had some mods come and go) but the basic mod/admin team has been stable for the last year I think now! In some ways I think having mods is a sign of inefficiency and I like to try and think of ways to turn more and more power over to members in keeping the site run cleanly and fairly (such as the expired/spam/voting buttons).

yes i agree it does run very well. well what i have seen, the mods and members are very switched on, as as for the layout of the site, you would be hard pushed to improve it, you only have to look at the other sites and there is no comparising, and thank you for your reply. :)

Interesting concept.

Noone with real power, people power voting/clicking gets stuff done, I imagine the coding for a forum that covers such a concept would be enormous?
How you would impliment it would be very interesting :)

On a related note Newsnight tonight mentioned online petitions and the road tax saga if only politics was that open and direct.

Well I think we are half way there already schizoboy. Members can spam a post if they think it's shady (once enough members click it is removed from the forum and marked as spam) and mark it expired (same concept). And the voting separates the good deals out from the poor or mediocre. I would like to put in a similar thing for duplicates. I think the implementation needs to be a bit wider and more thought put into how to trust members but the foundation has been laid for a cooperative site already.
