HOW DO YOU USE A TOILET SEAT ?

Had new bathroom and downstairs loo fitted a few months ago. Overall, please with the job but the "snag list" seems to be never ending.

Cloakroom toilet lid became loose then came off one hinge at the back (plastic has snapped). Complained and was told we must have mistreated it (definitley not) and that we should not have continued to use the seat once it was faulty. !

Now the toilet lid and seat in main bathroom are also loose but does not appear to be any access to bolts to try and tighten it. The toilets are the square shaped ones and both sets are plastic soft close.

Nothing has ever been mistreated but the company is refusing to resolve anything further for us. We paid for the whole project in 3 lump sums but retained £100 off the final bill until all the snags promised were resolved. We seem to be going backwards now.

We are being accused of mistreating the toilet seats. Anyone any ideas what they mean? Neither of us are overweight.

Now considering getting in someone else to put this right and using the £100 to pay for this. Don't really want to deal with them anymore

we had a problem with ours but as it turned out everyone was sitting slightly diagonally and putting strain on one hinge. This was because the toilet was quite close to the wall. Hope it makes sense.

Seems straightforward to me. Tell them they either fix it now or someone else will, for their £100. Don't keep letting it drag on.

2 women in my house, plus other households i have worked in, and time and time again I am tightening the hinges. I moved to metal hinges and the situation is still no different. What many people don't realise, despite living in denial, is that when they sit down they tend to shuffle in to position on the seat plus they lean upper bodies forward whilst their legs force their hips backwards. This will cause some hinges to loosen or break.

I am guilty of shuffling on the loo lol. Bet you all wanted to know that ;) our toilet seat has been replaced quite a few times because of this. I need to get comfy when reading my book :D

I can understand these might occasionally need tightening like many things. There are only the 2 of us now, still seems extreme for one hinge to snap off totally within a few months of it being fitted.

Has there ever been a thread as fascinating as this on HUKD :|

If it's any consolation, it's better than the Add One Leave One 'game' thread, and that's got like 68,000 posts in it now.

I have those rectangular lids and they are useless for staying put as screws come loose every few months

insert small flat screwdriver under chrome discs and lift up to access the screws which need tightening with a philips screwdriver

Toilet seats should always be left up (unless you need a number two of course - and in which case it goes back up afterwards). X)

OP did they supply materials. Cheap seats probably suffer like you describe, but decent fittings should be fine with virtually zero movement.

if you have a lady in the house it could be caused by use using the toilet seat to shave our legs haha my mum asked someone at work asking why they kept going and he said I bet u use it to put ur leg up on when shaving or drying your legs sure enough we did haha! X

How do you use a toilet seat?

Didn't it come with instructions?

Sitting diagonally?... shuffling?...

Body forward... hips back... LOL X)

This post has made my morning!!

I sit down for a number 1 or a number 2 because my pelvic floor muscles are too powerful I end up squirting up the damn wall when I do the final pushes.

The £100 retained is for things like this, if the work isn't satisfactory and they refuse to fix it, then get someone else in to do it at their cost...

8) Well I now know we are not bum shufflers and nope, don't use it to shave legs / get dry :D

So I do not think we are guilty of "mis uing the seat or lid" Seems like cheap fittings, so constantly becoming loose.

They supplied and fitted toilet, seat and lid. Will try and source replacements and get someone to finish the job properly.

There can be no other site in the world where I could get advice on such a delicate subject :p
