The sound would come from your laptop speakers

Headphone socket on laptop to phono on tv. I use my tv as an external monitor then play sound using the line in phonos.

Is it a MacBook pro?
I have a dvi to hdmi cable which does both audio and video, I got it off ebay from a uk seller and it works perfectly.

Edit: sorry, mine is mini dvi to hdmi.

Nope, Unless your laptop has an hdmi port? if not may be a usb to hdmi may work, Like this Here

Not sure if they carry sound? But perhaps someone else might enlighten you.

For a single cabled solution, an analogue audio out will require extra circuitry to convert to a digital format that can be carried via HDMI. There is also the issue of synchronising the audio with the video so even if there aure digital audio outputs from the laptop we still run into synchronisation issues.

Harltzer's suggestion is as good as you may hope to achieve since the device performs regeneration of a combined synchronised signal. If your laptop only provides analogue output, you will need a separate soundcard that can output digital before using the device suggested by Harltzer or if sticking to analogue audio, you will require even more circuitry to perform the conversion.

In short, it is not worth the effort and audio via 3.5 mm jack to separate sound source or via laptop speakers are the easiest options.

3.5mm to 3.5mm cable should do it. Should be a socket on your tv near the dvi.

Easiest way is just run a single 3.5mm cable for the sound.

DCX has to repeat himself, easiest solution would be this, though if your TV has no input the DVI to HDMI is still not going to carry sound, HDMI to HDMI carrys sound only. Unless theres a DVI + 3.5mm to HDMI cable out there.
