Seems that there was an image drive for the restore partition on the laptop.

I obviously installed VISTA (turd) over the top with a dvd.

But im not sure how vista partitions things and how it installs.

Is this normal if not how do I get rid.

You wont be able to see the hidden partition from my computer it will either have to be done by booting from the vista disc and when you get to the part where you choose upgrade or custom choose custom then advanced when the drives appear in the box select the recovery partition and then format.

Or option 2 control panel /administrative tools/computer management/disc management then right click the hidden partition and format if it says its in use would you like to force click yes but without starting all over again and deleting all the partitions and re partitioning with the now free space the only way to extend it into that space is with something like partition magic and resizing your system partition is risky and can cause you to loose everything.

Hope this was helpful

Fair enough option 2 was just the same but instead of using a command prompt it was done in the GUI i didn't know how much knowledge you had most people would have struggled with my info without opening dos boxes and typing in commands but that would have been the way i would have probably done it.
