Are you sure the drive is not already Fat32?

I thought most external hard drives were formated Fat32

Most people want to go from Fat32 to NTFS so they can store files over 4Gb

Its definately NTFS. I want to put my movies on it so i can use it with my dvd, maybe it'll be easier for me just to connect my laptop to my telly and just play movie through laptop.

I have the same drive and had to format it so the PS3 would recognise it, used Swissknife though (on XP). You could try Easeus (http://www.partition-tool.com/) which should work under Windows 7.
