Am I right to think a good starting point is trying to get the installer to fit me a quad lnb so i can watch BBC HD Freesat in future from my Sky dish.

Also, after 4 months Sky will hope I pay up for a monthly subscription. Has anyone had any success by maybe declining and do Sky offer any better deals?

Definitely get the installer to fit a quad LNB and twin cable. Say you are considering SkY+ If you are nice, they might do it for free. My installer charged me £20 for materials but I did get a warranty receipt.

The only deal I can recomend is ditch $ky after the 4 months (sell the box or keep it for a second room) and get an HD Freesat box!! Be sure to give a months notice before the 4 months is up,

I have it and unless you set up the dd on installation they cut u off after a week or two. You have the option of cancelling it befor the 4th month starts but I only got away with not giving it on installation as they didn't tell me when they booked the engineer and overlooked it. They houndd us day and night for bank details then cut us off until coughed up the details. I don't think you can upgrade to sky plus for the first few months and they won't discount the package until you've been paying for a while. Despite this, if u get it cheap enough its still a good buy.

I just cancelled the Direct Debit when I cancelled 30 days before the end of the 4 months.

Thanks - Is the twin cable so you can watch in another room?

We were considering getting hold of Skys Pay once watch whatever package but what are the benefits, as I heard you get all the channels minus sky sports and movies for 4 months and then you can cancel with 30 days notice after 3 months and just get the freeview channels with no installation costs or further charges, is this the case?

Also, what's the Quad LNB and twin cables do?

Well my main intent was to get a dish and lnb ready for BBC HD etc. and i got the Sky PNWF pack for £40 in a deal so I am hoping the Sky installer will do a quad lnb which i think does that. Not sure about the twin cable.

Quad LNB enables you to connect more than one receiver (up to 4) or 2 Sky+ boxes. (You need 2 feeds to the dish for Sky+.

Yes to question 1. That is the case.

To confirm Guvs post above, you only need the quad LNB and twin cables if you are considering a Freesat PVR (or Sky+ box) or conecting more than one receiver for another room etc. If not, then the standard installation will do fine for one box Sky or Freesat including BBC HD. That's the only reason I did it too.

You get 4 mixes free and I dont know if they let you do it now, but they let me swap the "News" mix for the "Music" mix at no cost for the 4 months.
