an acer aspire 5738z, it said on the pic blue ray when i bought it but now i have got it, all it says is watch them free on the laptop for 60 days

is there some software you need to install? like trail software.
open all the video player programs and see if any of them play blurays.

You got the link to where you bought it from?

The spec of that model just says it has a DVD burner, no mention of a BR drive?

according to the specs here http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5738Z-423G25Mn_LX.PAR0X.030/version.asp#top it only has a DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM - integrated installed and not a blueray player.Perhaps its just software to enable you to watch bluerays online.

I doubt it, as that's impossible unless you've got a 60Mbit broadband connection.

Acer has several varients of each model so it's possible that whatever mentions blu-ray applies to another model in the range. A relative's acer laptop even has a button to enable/disable bluetooth despite not being bluetooth capable. Do you have the exact model for your laptop? It'll be something like 5738Z-423G25Mn

You should probably be looking for some sort of player software trial like PowerDVD, WinDVD or ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre. If you find one them try running that and then putting the blu-ray in.

There's no Blu Ray drive in the laptop, so not quite sure what they're impying by the 60-day thing :?

AMD Athlon Dual Core QL-64 processor. 3Gb RAM. 320Gb hard drive. 15.6ins TFT widescreen display. DVD Super Multi drive. Integrated Intel graphics. 802.11 b/g/n WiFi. 0.3Mp webcam. Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. Acer helpline: 0870 853 1000.

This is the link and if you zoom and go on side view it shows blue ray on it

Its not going to have bluray if it wasnt in the description. Most of the time the pics are of the highest spec model.

lmao!!
women and technology eh!

a. cant believe you went to littlewoods to buy a laptop
b. expensive price to be honest
c. hate sites that never give you a full spec sheet
d. you saw blu-ray in the picture?? some sites even use fake pics that look similar ya know...
e. you should email them and ask them because according to the specs it does not say blu-ray
f. you must have received some booklets with the laptop. it is a must. sit down and start reading. does it state blu-ray in the books?

Doubt it, it says it has a DVD drive in the product description.

Does it have the Blu-Ray symbol on the drive of the laptop you have got, if it has it will play them with software, if not it won't

It doesn't matter......it's Littlewoods. You can send it back on the home approval scheme.

It is misleading I agree, but the offer is to whatch Blu Ray free. That indicates you don't have to pay for the web download for the trial period, not that you can play Blu Ray dvd's. Trading standards might have something to say about the advertising if they give you any hassle about returning it.

But that's where it get's even more confusing, as you can't download Blu-Rays, in the same was that you can't download a DVD - it's just a piece of storage media. If the OP could post the exact wording of the 'offer' it might help for us to work out exactly what it's suggesting :)

Unless it's something like a free 60-day trial to Lovefilm or similar (although offering a Blu Ray rental service on a non Blu Ray laptop seems a bit stupid).

Perhaps download was the wrong word, I'm sure you can stream them to your pc.

Hes trying to say you cant download a bluray or a dvd because they are the discs. And you cant download a disc. You can download the files on them though.
