How do I stop Call Centres Calling?

Does anyone know how I can stop call centres from calling my landline every day.

Mainly they try to sell me a mobile phone contracts but sometimes I get calls from window sellers, and general surveys.
Its getting annoying and I have no idea how to stop them.

Any advise would be helpful.
Thanks

Register yourself with the Telephone Preference Service:

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

It doesn't stop calls from abroad I don't think but I set this up for my parents who were getting calls all the time and it's drastically reduced the number of calls they've received.

One thing you could do, is contact your phone service provider, for example BT, and ask how much they charge, or how to set up, "anonymous call rejection". Simply it means unless folks disclose their phone number, they get a message saying "this person does not accept anonymous calls, please redial" and I have that, and lol, my phone never rings!

You'll find *most* not all call centre calls originate from with-held numbers. Try it, has to be worth a shot.

Thanks Johnmcl7, registered myself with TPS.
Will give BT a call on monday and ask them about anonymous call rejection.

Also, if you get any more calls, ask them to remove you from any lists they hold, they are legally obliged to do so.

You have to be careful there - I've just been seriously job hunting and just about every agency and company that contacted me did so by phone and witheld their number, obviously I very much wanted them to contact me!

Emma - very true, people will quickly hang up on you when you tell them that legally they are not allowed to contact you as you're on the TPS.

Maybe so John, and a fair shout, but, i have a mobile number for that, cos you just know a call for a job is just as likely come in, when you've spent all day waiting, when you just go to the shops for the evening paper:x

I guess it is a catch 22, but since i never use my landline, i have it (only) so i can have 'net access, it's no loss to me if anyone calls, but i do take your point

What I am going to do is this:

http://0700.uk2numbers.co.uk/index.cfm?go=pricing

Get a 0700 number for £4.95 (one off charge) and pass on this to everyone other than family and friends. Calling from Bombay, pretending to be British with 100% manners (here is where they fail) :-D

Calling 0700 is wee expensive. Rip them off as they do to you.

All they have to do is dial 1470 before dialling your number, that makes their number 'visible' to your phone for that call.

Wouldn't that mean everyone who calls you paying a lot more per call, as these are for business customers?

Thanks ducky

Ray, I think these are for everyone.

I know anyone can use them, but it would mean everyone [friends and family] having to pay higher call rates?

Would it also affect any landline deal you might have, such as internt connections?

Ah, right. I thought they just forwarded but it seems I may be wrong. :(

I'm sure there was one posted here sometime which was free, a re-direct, and paid you but I can't find it...
