  Why is the charcoal setting even on the toaster ....... surely nobody likes toast thats burnt do they ?

  I like half melted and half butter still there if that makes sense.
  
  And I love burnt toast - brown seeded or granary only though :)

  hot with butter
  hot with butter and marmalade
  hot with an egg on top
  
  only time i like warm toast is with pate on, or when son makes it (the latter i only pretend )
