A friend of a friend has a cheap ps3 he wana sell. Says it's brand new with a game and pad. I am rather sceptical. How can I check if it's nicked or legit?

If it was there last night and it isn't the next morning, chances are it's been stolen

But does it matter if it's nicked if your gettin it for cheap? I bought mine off a randomer on Gumtree last Xmas, says he got it with his phone so I believed him. Ask the guy where he got it!? :p

If it is nicked does anything happen when you go online to update firmware etc?

Laser beams are activated trapping you also shutters come down around your windows and doors until the police arrive

nah. go for it. if he stole it thats a massive mark up. i'd be abit sceptical if they were selling it for £50 - £100. theres noway sony would ever know even if it was.

I heard this too.. One of the laser beams got my mate right in the jaffas. One of the worst drives to A&E I've ever had.

I bought a stolen xbox 360 for £25, had a call from the police a few minutes later. They took it off me and slapped me with a £300 fine. Id avoid it if i were you

£180 isn't really that cheap, i'd expect to pay £50 for a stolen one.

if its brand new i dont think it will be stolen.

even if it is i dont think they can track the IP because no-one else will have made an account on it.

call sony and give them the serial numbers or whatever the ps3 has written on it (ive never checked lol)

if its stolen in a batch from a retailer, the retailer will have reported that batch to sony.

You can get guaranteed legit ones from a store for just a little more, at £199

Well, if it is stolen then if the police ever catch up with the thief and he tells them he sold the PS3 to you, they'll come round and have it off you, leaving you out of pocket.

Ask for some sort of receipt / order confirmation email. If it was a freebie with a mobile contract, he'll surely have an email about it as well.

Prob not worth it for a £20 saving.. No warranty either (not transferable?)
