when you click over an address and make it into a url using the URL button - take out the square bracket after the letters url and replace it with an equals sign. Put that square bracket at the end of the address, then put your chosen shortening inside the brackets which are ] and [ .

This is hard to explain!!

e.g. http://www.hotukdeals.com/

try it. hope it works!

URL button ????

Instead of using the 'quick reply' box under my post you need to go down a bit further and there's a "post reply" button on the left.

It looks like this:

There's lots of buttons to play with on there! :)

<A href =http://www. Name of website>Type in whatever you want to call the link here</A HREF>

Hello Duckmagic - Whats the difference to using the Quick Reply box to the Post Reply box ?

I'm still lost... what is A href ?
#6
Say we were gonna use the website: [url]www.google.co.uk[/url]
and post it as GOOGLE
how would I do that ?
[admin]#7
(url=http://www.google.co.uk)GOOGLE(/url)

Use [ and ] instead of ( and )

Okay... here is a list of what we call 'BB Code' (ignore anything else said in this thread for now):

b - bold
i - itallics
u - underline
img - an image
url - a url.

Each piece of 'BB Code' is posted inside square brackets: [ ].
It's hard for me to demonstrate in the forums because if I type BB Code then it'll just turn into the example which isn't any use, so I will put a space after each '[' and before each ']'.

To link to google as GOOGLE you would type (without spaces):

[ url=www.google.co.uk ]GOOGLE[ /url ]

That would look like this without the spaces:

GOOGLE

The url code is the only one where you use the = sign: [ url=whatever.com ]

For the others you just put the code in brackets around the text. For example (remember to miss out the spaces):

[ b ]Text Here[ /b ] would look like Text Here.
[ i ]Text Here[ /i ] would look like Text Here.
[ u ]Text Here[ /u ] would look like Text Here.

Finally, pictures. Say your picture was at http://www.hotukdeals.com/themes/pnDefault/images/header.gif you would put (without spaces):

[ img ]http://www.hotukdeals.com/themes/pnDefault/images/header.gif[ /img ]

and it would look like this:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/themes/pnDefault/images/header.gif

If you need more help then let me know! :)

One other thing Duckmagic - you said to use the POST REPLY icon rather than the Quick Reply.... any reason why ? What implications does it have ?

Also, out of interest are you the man in the know on mobile phone deals ?
#12
Okay... firstly - I'm the man with the mobiles, yes.

Secondly... you may like to see what you've inspired me to do. It's a draft at the moment but I'm hoping that our Admin will impliment it into the website somewhere.

[url]www.duckmagicuk2.co.uk/bbcode.htm[/url]

And finally, if you click on "Post Reply" instead of using quick reply then you get buttons to add BBCode, emoticons and little message icons, as well as a few other neat options which aren't used as much such as "make a poll".

dear ducky, there is a check button on the posting section which says "disable BBcode in this post". That might have been useful! (See it in your image previously)

I just lauged a bit there now - when I posted that first reply, I thought that would be it....then all this mayhem that ensued!!! LOL :)

And dear jonjonjon:

I've learn't loads today

apparently you have learned loads - but this should be all written down somewhere, instead of finding things out months and months after you join! Because i think i asked the same question you posed, oh, well, maybe 4 months ago?!!?

Next time I go to create a NEW TOPIC I guess I should check that Emmajk42 ain't already posted it......."maybe 4 months ago?!!?"

Yeah .... righto !
[admin]#17
I think she means I should put up a link to ducky's guide somewhere... ;)

Oh.... if thats the case then... Sorry Emmajk42....[/img][/quote]

Hi..

I was wondering if anyone know if the same thing could be done in hotmail? I send people weblinks a lot and they have to copy and paste them.. Is there an easier way where I can direct them?

Thanks
#22
Try to use <a href=http://www.mywebsite.com>Link to my website</a> but it will only work if your message is in HTML format.
[admin]#23
Most email readers will automatically change a web link into a hyperlink too, so it may just depend on what email reader your recipients are using.
