Maybe you can give me some more ideas,my lil one is 4 and each year we cut a template of a boot print out of cardboard and sprinkle talcum powder footprints up the stairs and into her room, she thinks its great that santa has spread his magical snow around the house (not so easy to hoover up mind you!)

so any more ideas anyone?

My kids are 16 & 18 now so Santa is long gone! My sister has 2 small children and lives in a modern house with no chimney and the children were worried that Santa would not be able to get in! My sister has bought a 'magic key' that only Santa can use! The children hang it outside on a 'Santa please stop here!' sign as part of their mince pie & brandy routine.

Basically you mix oats with some glitter and then on Christmas Eve get the kids to put it out for the reindeer :santa:

Someone posted a deal to buy special footprint and snow to put out as well, forget where it was now. But may be worth a look.

Have you seen Polar Express? It's on on Christmas Eve and it's beautiful, my 3 & 7yr old daughters love it and at the end the boy (who for the first year doubts that Santa exists) is left a bell under the christmas tree in a little box. Now the boy was told in the film by Santa and co that you can only hear it ring if you believe in Santa so when he shakes it and hears it ring he's amazed but his mum thinks it's broken.

On a recommendation from a friend, we've got 2 bells this year, put some ribbon on and put them in a box and are going to do the whole "no, we can't hear it, it must be broken" mullarky. Apparently they really like it but you definitely need to have watched the film for them to understand.

My grandad used to sneak into the loft where he had some sleigh bells hidden and make noises that sound like the reindeer hooves on the roof. My brother and I were amazed by this. My kids also refused to put sherry out for xmas one year as santa cant drink and drive.

my little boy made some in nursery and put it in pretty bags, they were selling them for 50p in their xmas concert, and sold out in 5 minutes, they were very popular x x x

If you're making the "reindeer food" then put this rhyme on a gift tag and attach it :-

Reindeer Dust

On Christmas Eve when you start to yawn
Sprinkle your magic dust on the lawn
When it's late and dark and bitter
They smell the seed and see the glitter
Then Christmas morning you will see
Presents under the Christmas Tree.

My mum used to ring bells late at night and we thought santa was downstairs!!!

leave a toy stuck up the chimney, say it must have got stuck as santa was in a hurry. Done this one year when santa forgot to leave something. Told son about the time santa dropped something when I was a boy, he went and had a look and YES it was there.

We threw a half eaten carrot onto the front lawn one year. When we went out (to Grandmas for Christmas dinner) my daughter found it. "The reindeers must have dropped it as they were flying off" we said. She bought it hook line and sinker ;-):giggle::santa:

Another lovely tip that my friend told me (her friend told her) is to give your kids a new pair of Pyjamas to wear on Christmas Eve. I wrap them up and leave them on their pillow. It gets them up the stairs and ready for bed really quickly! It also make the Christmas morning photos lovely with the kids in new and fitting pyjamas!

We bought one of those chinese paper lanterns from Play.
The kids stuck their christmas lists to it before we sent it up into the sky.

Why is Santa dead and living in the sky? :w00t::whistling::giggle:

Seriously though, it sounds like a lovely idea.

We do the new pj's on xmas eve night so santa can see them looking nice. We also do the magic dust outside so will definately use that rhyme thanks.

We also have a magic key for santa but never really knew where to put it so i think i might try outside this year.
