How does microsoft do it!!!

Ok so i bought a refurb Evesham PC (well actually i bought 2 one with wondows and one without) so thought well i will install the other one with windows using the other PC's code so the PC's arrived today and i put that plan into action with a really old version of XP Home (as in one of the disc still given away with PC's which they havn't done for a while) So i put in the code blah blah and when it came to turn on for the first time it told me to validate and i thought well i have a code and let it but i couldn't connect to the internet (think its becuse of the shortage of ethernet drivers) but it then wont let me log on and just keeps forcing me back to the validation screen so i am unable to install the drivers :@

So the question is how come the computer locked me out and didnt give me 30 days like usual (like this CD normall does granted for different codes)? Also is the only way to fix this to do a new install with a different code? or is the lock out hardwired into eveshams hard drive or something?

Really confused and hate that microsoft will only let me validate. So any help would be great (and please don't say get linux its the future as if i wanted linux my question would be in linux how do i... lol)

thanks

Is there any way you can reinstall and install the network drivers during the installation rather than afterwards? I know you have an option to install things like RAID drivers, etc during installation, but I've always just fully installed and then added the drivers I need later.

you can always slipstream your network drivers into the XP installation disk. Google for instructions (e.g. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/How-To--Slipstream-your-XP-installation)
