How does the HOT tab sort deals ?

When viewing deals as 'Hot', how are they sorted ?
There doesn't seem to be any logic in the way they are displayed, as you get the first post 1 hour ago, 2nd post 11 hours ago then 3rd post 5 hours ago.

Just curious.

It adds the deals on top as they become hot. So it doesn't matter when they are posted it just matters when they are voted over the hot point then they appear at the top of list.

The problem with the old front page is that it showed hot deals (i.e. over 50 degrees) but in their time of posting order. So a deal might have become hot but only show up 10 deals down out of the blue. Now you don't have to worry about that as they will just keep stacking up showing the newest hot one first.

If it then goes cold again..will it still be on that page? Or vanish again?
And, if it does vanish, but then goes hot again...will it reappear? (and if so, at the top?)
Its easy for something to cross the threshold and then get 1 cold vote

How come my view of the 'NEW' tab has no sensible order at all? It goes 8mins, 38 mins, 11mins, etc. There's one thats 5hrs ago sitting above 11 mins ago and they're both halfway down the thread? Which of the deals is NEWest?

Oh and I still can't see the whole page if I have 'history' showing, no scroll bars either.

The 'New' tab should be showing in order of the most recent deal submitted, where as 'Discussed' is in the order of the last comment.

The times you quote maybe because you have 'text only' selected, which is giving times of the last comment and could be in any order, if you select 'detailed view' then it should be in time order...I think!!!

Thanks for the answer by the way Admin, clears that up.
Not sure if I like that way or not, but anyway. Only thing is if someone voted a deal thats say a year old and it makes it 'hot' it will then be displayed as the newest entry.....for a 1 year old deal that probably no longer exists.

Can't see the reason for that. Can't see why it should be so difficult to find the newest deal post. Why should I have to view in non-text, its slow enough in text view!?

Still fed up with the new hotukdeals - who is it for?

smallblueplanet, the deals viewed by "NEW" are actually in the same order (reverse chrono) regardless of whether you view as detailed or simple ("text only") - try it yourself and compare, the newset deals are at still the top. The difference is, as you rightly point out, that instead of showing the datestamp of the original post, simple view shows the datestamp of the last comment.

Hope that helps.

Edit: Sorry, I mean as Richierea pointed out.

So how can I view the "Hot Deals" forum in the proper forum-style order, i.e most recent commented deal at the top, then the next, etc, in "Simple View"? I want to scan through ALL deals, not ordered by "hotness" or original post date.

This issue is that I DON'T CARE how "hot" a deal is rated, the deals can be voted by anyone and I am not interested in what others think is a good deal, many voters don't vote fairly anyway. The voting system is easily abused. So that's what the "NEW" tab is for, right? But it's not ordered correctly!

I see a lot of posts discussing the custom view and how to get it to look like the old site, but I have no interest in the "main site", I only use the forums to check deals. I want to be able to scan through every forum post, regardless if it's a hot deal or not, in "last-posted-comment" order. If this is not possible, can it be implemented asap?

Also where has the "subscribed threads" icon gone? There used to be an icon in the forum list view next to the thread title indicating when the thread is subscribed to for updates.

Finally. can an option be added to remove the unnecessary stuff on the right pane?

charlie12 you want discussed not New if you want to see the most recently bumped up one, i.e the thread with the most recent comment at the top.

New is like clicking show all new threads in vB. It shows you the newest submitted threads by time submitted.

Thanks for the quick reply Admin. I must have completely missed the "discussed" tab, that certainly makes things a LOT better, thanks! :)

As I was trying to explain to smallblueplanet, the "NEW" tab does actually show reverse chrono order (i.e. newest at the top) regardless of detailed or text-only view but when you use text-only view the datestamp you see is for who last commented, not when the deal was posted. That's why it looks like they are out of order. Anyway, you know what "DISCUSSED" is now so that's hunky dory :)

As per the old site you can see threads you are subscribed to in "Control Panel" and also when viewing in simple mode ("text only") there will be a little "+" over the flame for threads you have subscribed to... er I think? There is for me anyway.

And actually it's already been changed so ignore me! The "text only" view now shows the original deal/post datestamp as well. Sorted!
