It's very sad indeed. Perhaps these children would be less scared if their parents took them out of their little bubble for 2 mins to take the time to explain to them that not everyone is the same on the outside, but it doesn't mean they're any different on the inside.

Its flippin disgraceful beyond belief never mind anything else, these parents should be ashamed of themselves

For crying out loud, These are the exact reason's why people discriminate against disabled. Children need to know that some people are different to them or indeed the same.

I understand that children may be puzzled to the fact that she only as one arm, Why don't the parents just explain to the kids that some people are different to themselves.

If they think its scary, they know where the off switch is.

People who complain about others disabilities should be ashamed of themselves.
#11
Thats just stupid What if a teacher at school had that ARe the parents going to take there child out of school in case they are scared Dumbos!!!
Oh and its Discover and do!..soz
#12
Imo, the earlier that children start to realise that not everybody is/looks the same the better. Those parents should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for veiwing it any other way.
#13
Is this not tantamount to rascism? People objecting to someone's appearance because its "different"? Disgusting.

we watch it with our daughter - I'd rather her see things like this to appreciate that people are different
#15

any parent who complained about this should be ashamed of themselves-wouldnt you just love to work for the bbc and have the freedom to write and tell these idiots EXACTLY what you think of them?
#18

#19

what would these 'parents' do if their child were in an accident and lost an arm? Would they keep their own child away from other children just in case they scared them?

my little boy asked why her arm was like that and I explained that her arm didn't fully grow when she was in her mum's tummy x x and he said oh ok

But the vast majority of comments have offered support to the presenter, who they describe as 'lovely' and 'talented'.

A BBC spokesman said nine official complaints had been made about Miss Burnell, who has a four-month-old daughter.

From the link.

Utterly bizarre - what sort of parents are they? Minority idiots!!

It's disgraceful...........the Beeb should send letters back to the complainants telling them to go do one.

Listened to her on Radio 2 this afternoon explaining herself.........don't see why she should.

this is absolutely ridiculous. my boys have seen her on telly and have never even mentioned it, i don't even think they've noticed. i have a mentally disabled sister and they are used to the fact that people are different. If they asked i would say exactly the same as what angelstar told her little boy.

Looks like people are being overprotective.

Reminds me of when I was speaking to a former Kiwi rugby captain last year, he said over here it's very different to back home in regards to how we rear our young.

For example: over here we would tell a child to not attempt climbing a tree - as opposed to letting the kid do what he's gonna do and learn from his mistakes - or in this case accept that people are all different from one another.

If people want identikit presenters they should go live in the USA.

Over here all are welcome, missing a limb, fat/skinny, ugly, lanky, homosexual, with crooked teeth - it's all part of what makes the UK great!

Very sad.

I wonder if these parents realise how much they are failing those kids in over-protecting them from understanding the real world.
