How long do you keep your cardboard boxes?

Basically, this site makes me buy more things and bigger things over the internet.

How long do you keep the carboard box for (just in case it needs returning?). My house isnt too big and the spare room already has loads of junk in it without adding empty boxes.

How do I stand if I had to return something, but didnt have the original box etc. (or if I have to return a dvd player or tv)

Please and thank you

boxes that the items are delivered in get recycled straight away, boxes from the products usually get stuffed in the loft and forgotten about (only expensive stuff though)
#2
boxes for ps3, wii etc are kept in back cupboard, everything else is put to recycling

I think if it was a large item, companies wouldn't expect you to package it back up (e.g a plasma tv) as it would be near on impossible, I just keep all the bumpf and obviously the receipts. My advice would be to recycle the cardboard - save cluttering up your loft with loadsa boxes;-)

Get chucked into shed till the item has been used, abused and cream crackered - lol

actually, my plasma has a slight fault and i was asked to box it up for sending away for repair. i laughed at them, ooohhh suuuure, i got like a dozen boxes i could use :whistling:

they normally get kept a day or 2, until my youngest has had enough of shutting himself in it. I just have to check and make sure he's not still in it when I recycle it ;-)

I keep the product boxes for a year at least. ALthough I have some lying round for longer, as I use them when I move house.... my house is so full of boxes!!

i freecycle them after a week. they do great for people wanting to move house.

I always keep all my product boxes as it keeps the resale value up when it's time to sell them on.

loft insulation as previous poster have replied and good for selling on as latter poster replied

I'd have thought they'd have come to collect it as it was, I think it's silly to ask someone to repackage such a large item. That's madness eh?!:?

If there's one thing that's bound to cause conflict when getting a new product it's me saying "make sure you keep that box safe !"

Drives the other half absolutely bananas as we live in a very small house anyway with virtually no storage. I still have the boxes from a HI FI unit I bought 15+ years ago and wouldn't dream of throwing them away, just in case, lol.

Every now and then the O/H manages to have a cull when I'm away. She thinks i don't know but I do and I'm just waiting for the day we have to send something back in it's original box and she's disposed of it. Another dream because it won't happen will it?

One are I definitely been proved correct in is that if you are reselling something having the original box and packaging can considerably up it's value.

Off for my tablet now...........................................

hottoshop - being a heating engineer you have just scared the ***** out of me. Please don't tell anyone to seal a vent that is there for an appliance. That is an incredibly dangerous thing to suggest.

Back on topic for a moment.

The boxes are not required when returning a product, but it is always easier to return them in the correct packaging.

I keep mine in the loft until I need the space.

I simply flat-pack all my product boxes by cutting the tape on them. That way I can store every box inside my large computer box that sits on top of the wardrobe

At the moment I must have at least 15 different boxes flatpacked inside one larger box. I'd never have the room to store them individually!

Whenever I sell something I just re-seal the box back up and it looks like new - easy!
