How long does it take for you to fall asleep from the minute you go to bed?

Well, everyone in my house is fast asleep after about 10 minutes, my mum is gone by about 3 minutes! It normally takes me a good hour or more just laying there before I actually fall asleep. Is this normal?! lol

Happy new year everyone!

Always different for me, at my fellas house I feel really aware of different surroundings so take me ages, at home after a stressful day at work I rarely sleep, but after a relaxing day off and at home I always go to sleep really quickly, unfortunately the latter is a rareity!

Up till I was 25(and a few months) always took me a hour or so, then rarely slept over 8 hours now I fall asleep within a few minutes and 8-10 hours feels like nothing(though I still wake up I find it hard to stay awake till I drag myself out of bed)

this is me, i got so bored of lying there thinking about random rubbish that i started watching programs in bed on my laptop and i unplug it when i start to feel tired enough, and take my specs off and fall asleep listening to it. I find the noise of something outside my head helps me sleep and stops me thinking. unfortunately i cant sleep without it now.

Its so annoying the slightest noise.....I could hear a sparrow fart (as my dad says) and thats it i would be awake all night. I must have a active mind. My fella goes to bed and is asleep within minutes does my head in so have to listen to him snoring until i eventually nod off....Believe me he sometimes has some bruises in the morning haaaa !!

Can take me up to an hour most nights, way too much computers, tv and phone in the evenings and the mind just cant switch off.

Much better if i just relax in an evening and have nothing to worry about tomorrow.

I have to stay awake as late as possible to force my body to shutdown.
My mind goes into overdrive if I try to sleep.

I am a VERY heavy sleeper, but the slightest disruption say if I wake up in middle of night and I cant get back to sleep.

I.e there could be a house party next door and I could sleep through it as long as I am asleep before it starts or if its not booming bass to extremes before I do, if I wake up for whatever reason i.e someone knocks on my door by accident thats me awake for the rest of the night even if is only 2am when I am woken.

Since I left home at 18, I've had a full time job which has a very irregular shift pattern. At least twice a week I'm up at 4:30AM , at least once a week I don't finish til 1AM, and once every couple of weeks I work 11PM til 7AM.

These awful shifts coupled with a full time University course and work experience make for a horrible sleep pattern. I just sleep when I'm tired now, not necessarily at night. Most of the time when I'm not in work I sit up until the small hours on the internet anyway.

Roll on July when I finish Uni and can hopefully get myself a job with more sociable working hours!

So in answer to your question.. it can take me 5 minutes or less after a really hard day, or sometimes (especially when I have to be up for 4:30AM) I can't fall asleep at all.

It's a hard life.
