How long should I charge my new mobile phone battery for?

Just got a new SE k810i phone. I am never quite sure how long I should charge the battery for first time.

Before I have been told to -

Charge for 24 hours

Charge for 8 hours, run it down, another 8 hours run it down etc.

Charge for an hour or so until it says battery full.

Does anyone know which of these (if any) is right?

Thanks in advance!

It doesnt really matter now a days. Batteries are lithium which are a lot more durable than they used to be !!

I charge it as I'm playing with it, then leave it til it's full.

At the end of the day, if your battery dies after 12 months (which I highly doubt) - a new one is a fiver........

It usually says in the manual?

Usually, I leave it on charge for overnight, and only ever charge when low.

What does the manual say ?

Can we safely assume that you have read the instruction book?

Dont be silly! Nobody reads manuals nowadays!!

I would plug it in until you need to use it, or overnight

It should come already partially (50% or so) charged (depending on how long its been sat in the box) as Li-Ion doesn't like long periods of total discharge, so really a couple of hours and it will be charged. Letting it discharge fully then recharge fully is a good idea as this makes sure the charging circuit is correctly calibrated. Overnight isn't necessary - the charger will switch to trickle mode when the battery is 95% charged (which shouldn't take more than about 2 hours from completely discharged).

On what grounds? Charger is 700mA output, it will absolutely, completely charge the battery in under 4 hours (providing the phone is not switched on).
