I have a contract with EE ( yip more fool me)
I took a 10gb package including unlimited texts & calls.

before 4G became effective I was using 4gb a month between me & my partner. Now he has a decent phone with his own internet supply I have full custody on MY phone :)

anyway yesterday I got a text from EE saying I have used 80% of my data which will refresh on The 18th. whenever I am at home my phone automatically switches to the wifi.
Basically EE say because I am on 4G data downloads quicker therefore using more mb's.
personally I think this is bs, how can I use 8gb in 12 days when I'm on WiFi for the majority of time.
I'm not even downloading stuff.....or watching porn lol. Are EE right or am I being bumped??

Its android on I have a HTC one max. It does switch to WiFi cos the H/4G disappears n I get the rainbow looking WiFi connection :)

Just check what data you've been using on your phone, it should break it down and show you what the data has been used for too

Get on 3, Unlimited data ;)

I have the same plan on the HTC one mini. Usage seems to be correct for me.

Check your usage stats on the phone to see if that helps explain anything. There may be some background tasks using data. Or maybe chunky downloads that you start while at home are completing while out and on 4G.

The speed of the connection won't effect how much you download - if a file is 500mb then you will only download 500mb regardless of the speed.

Only thing that might change is that before you were watching videos etc. in a lower resolution and now you're not.

I really can't see how you would ever download 8gb of data in 12 days without realising. Do you use Facebook a lot? You could change the settings on automatically playing videos as that will use a bit without you realising, but 8gb is a lot of data (relatively)

Its most likely caused by a number of factors, apps use much more data than they used to, including background data. So for example Facebook will continue to use data even if you are not using it. With the faster download speeds, video's tend to be of a higher quality, also screen size of phones is a factor. So the larger screen devices will actually use slightly more data for things like Video.

Examples of data usage, just 1 minute of browsing on Facebook uses around 1.8MB, uploading images and videos is considerably more. If you watch YouTube videos for 1 minute this uses around 6MB of data so you can see over a month this can easily build up.

Got Unlimited data + tethering with 3 for about £12.50-£15PM, since saturday I've used 3GB, last month it would have been pretty high; but I'd imagine I probably average about 15GB+ a month?

A good point regarding Facebook. It is the biggest data eater on my phone and I wouldn't call myself a heavy user. The auto-play video function really makes a big difference so I turned this off as soon as I realised.

Good old EE dishing out more nonsense. Don't even believe a word they say.

Do they? With my EE plan (which sounds identical) you just can't use it unless you buy a top-up data add-on. It used to be as you desribed a few years ago.

well i took out the £18 a month 30 day rolling contract which is unlimited min, texts, calls to 0800, 0845 etc etc, and unlimited data

however learning from voda i asked what was the actual, data limit and he said 3GB. I asked what happens if go over that and do they start charging you per 250mb (like voda do) and he said no its UNLIMITED internet BUT when u go over the 3gb they will slow your usage so you cant use it for things like streaming and downloading games / films etc

take from that what you will

Are you sure it's EE you're with? I can't see that they do an unlimited data plan and it's well documented on their website and in forums that there is no charge when you reach the limit; they just offer to sell you a data add-on.

1.5 to 2

i tend not to stream stuff unless i need to.

Usually around 300-400MB a month as the phone is mostly used over wifi for downloading, streaming etc. although I used 2GB in four days while in London and on 4GB, it's a bit too convenient so perhaps it's good it's not available here.

Do three still do unlimited tethering thought that had stopped?!
#24
Over the past month, I have used 84.6Gb, but I'm with three, so no dramas there ;)

Getting around 2Mb/s on downloads over 3G/H+ Signals

Dayum, how are you folks getting through so much data?
I use about 100mb per month. X) Of my 500mb allowance.
Can't see the appeal in using the phone to stream, tbh. If I'm at home or work I use something with a bigger screen. If I'm travelling I'm usually in the car, so not online. I can understand using the phone on public transport, but on the rare occasion I'm doing so I'll download what I want via wifi in advance of my journey.

i had 2GB with EE, kept going over and getting raped with data charges (i was on a plan that let me have unlimited browsing even when i hit my limit, but the last years continuation of contract seemed to have deleted that, so that no matter how i argued it, they kept saying the 2Gb was a "fair usage" and if i kept exceeding it, then i'd keep getting charged), im now with giffgaff on their 3GB £12 bag, and ive not been getting near 2GB.

I've had the contract for about two and a half years, told them I wanted it on a 30 day rolling contract for that price otherwise I'd go elsewhere, so they gave it to me.

Negotiated that just before the cut off date.

Nice thanks so much my cut off date is coming up soon after two years! so hopefully i can negitate the same.

Did you have to get put through to retentions? Or do you go through to "upgrades"?

Just want to make sure i am talking to the right people

I asked ot get put through to retentions, but they never put you through to them, they just push you through to the sales team who make you some stupid offers that are nothing like what you wanted.
There's an actual retentions team after these people that can offer you things, thr first people you get put through to have no power to give you anything other than the set contracts that already exist.
