Hi,

Friend of mine has a mini and they needed a new bulb for the headlights, rang the dealership where they got the car and was quoted £90 + vat as the bulb was very tricky to replace due to having to move parts to get to it.

Advised them to goto where I get my M.O.T done and he said he would have a look, popped the bonnet, opened a box that enclosed the bulbs and changed the bulb all for £2.00 as he said it was the easiest buld he has ever replaced lol.

Just a heads up.... Always check local trusted garages, dont just rely on your dealership.

That is disgraceful

Just goes to show - ALWAYS get at least 2 prices for ANY job
#3
Not exactly breaking news, the dealerships make their money by massively overcharging on service.

Oh has VW Touareg (the jeep) and they have made the rear light impossible to get off to change a lightbulb unless you have their special tools - think they quoted him £120 or something totally stupid :x

Vauxhall gargage tried to sting me £280 for new wiper motor, the part costs £30 new, plus an hours labour £50 MAX......slight price inflation no?
#7
that is disgusting, not suprising though.

Halfords only charge about £2 to fit a bulb which isnt bad as some can be a right pig to get to.

That's assuming they can do it though which I've found isn't always the case, they left me with a dead battery stuck in their car park as they claimed my battery was not a standard fit - that is despite it being the standard mount for all VAG cards for about 9 years.
