A few years ago (when I discovered HotUKDeals) I started a log of how much I spend at Christmas, compared to the RRP price - knocking off vouchers, codes, freebies, 3 for 2's etc and I also save all my quidco, survey and nielsen mobile reward points for paper vouchers. So I was just curious, does HUKD make you save money on the purchases you would make anyway, or splurge on something just because it's a bargain.

For reference, here is the last few years of my gift spend

2014 - RRP £648, actual spend £314 (was a bit more this year because I bought the kids tablets)
2013 - RRP £555, actual spend £269
2012 - RRP £592, actual spend £286

I think what you've spent on your kids is a sensible amount of money tbh. I refuse to spend £500+ on a mobile phone/tablet ect & then shout at him when he's lost it at school, there kids for god sake they loose stuff all the time.

I do think times have changed, when i was a kid you only ever had stuff for your Birthday & Christmas & that was it. Now kids seem to have things throughout the year & when it come to Christmas there's not a lot left to get them.

So not a great deal this year.

Well that's my total gift spend for friends, family, hubby and kids. The kids get really spoiled by relatives at christmas so I don't see the point in buying them stuff just for the sake of it; they have so many presents we have to space the opening out, because they just get bored. They are very lucky. My max spend is usually 50-60 each for kids (7 and 9 this year) - that usually gets a decent lego set if I shop around, and a sylvanian families set or similar, and some little extra toys, chocs etc. Then I can get other stuff they need at other times, but for a reason, like for getting a decent school report, or achievements for scouts/guides.

You can't compare RRP as NO ONE pays RRP and spent the same as don't rely on here to buy stuff we need as most things are available everywhere else....if you look.

Ive purchased every single xmas present for the kids off Amazon this year almost all for half the usual selling price. Most deals were probably through this site. So thanks x

I have a friend who pays RRP (or more) for almost everything, he impulse buys stuff and always wants it now. I don't even think he has an Amazon account. Bought a rust bucket car for 6k, I told him they were going on Autotrader for 4k but he refused to haggle and paid cash for the first car he saw... people see him coming, there is a palpable buzz among Currys salespeople when he enters the store as they can sense that here is a man who bought 5 Playstation 3s when all the ones he owns still work.

valid point, it's just handy to have everything in one place here.

I would believe people would actually spend a lot more than before, because they see so much stuff on sale/cheap on hukd so they just buy it and half the stuff wont even be used, but thats just how the human mind works when we see cheap stuff I guess ^^

I think I am married to that man, sounds very familiar to me ....

yep im the same, you dont spend less but give more.
annoys the missus a bit when i hunt for bargains she seems to think it cheapens the process

giving someone 1 item purchased normally
or giving someone 2 items with some personal effort to find the deals <-- better imo!
