How much do you pay for you Gas & Electric?

I had my bill today and was suprised to notice that i was in credit! They have lowered my payments, which i am shocked about as i was panicing with the recent inflation.

Mind you my electric monthly payment is £70pm however i have 3 computers which are often left on, 2 fish tanks, cook electric etc...

My Gas I paid £20 per month however i know this will increase in winter.
So both bills is £90 per month.

Im with N Power in 3 bed house.

Who are you with and what do you pay?

Way too much. Just got gas bill the other day from British Gas. I am £71 in credit, but they are still increasing my monthly payment from £44 to £64!!!!!
And I pay £39.50 electric a month (EDF).
That's combined total of £103.50. :w00t:
Something's not right here!!!!

BTW, I'm in a 3-bed terrace. In the past couple of years or so my gas and electric have tripled.
#3
last year I paid £60 gas per month and £40 electric per month and they still wanted more. I live in a two bedroom flat, i'm out all day and I live alone! Have taken this up several times with them and finally managed to save up enough to have my loft insulated so hopefully my bills will decrease.
Crazy thing was I couldn't afford to do the loft 'cos of the sky high bills, yet I didn't qualify for free loft insulation because I don't claim any benefit.

i pay between £500 and £600 per quarter - i only have electricity at my property which is a 3 bedroom semi detached house - i'm moving on wendesday and dread the new bill due to my last bill only having 3 days worth of the increased rate (which i believe has been a rise of about 20%)

so give or take alittle, its all roughly the same, apart from you shibi din whos higher. I was with BG but left as they really messed up. I was looking to see if any particular supplier was cheaper but looks like i will stay with one i have now.

I'm with E.on (on a pre-payment meter) which works out about £3.00 a day so thats £93 approx every month.
Waiting to change over to British gas & have the meter changed (capped until 2011) quarterly bill at the end of October which should work out a bit cheaper.
I'm with British Gas for my Gas (weird I know!!) pay every quarter, usually get 2 bills of about £150 & 1 under £100 & the big winter one over £200
3 Bedroomed house
[mod]#9
£75 / month dual fuel (gas & electric) online tariff in 4 bed detached house full of electrical appliances (Games machines, TVs, PCs, chargers etc). My electric bill consumption is higher than my gas.

Possibly consider using one of the comparison sites to see if you can get a better deal on your unit charges ? :)

NB suppliers charge different unit prices for different regions, so you can only compare suppliers for each region. One Supplier may be cheapest In london, different one in Manchester etc

PS you should be in credit now, as you are about to go into winter quarter & your consumption will be higher. Monthly payments are based on 12mths consumption & averaged out. I'm currently £90+ in credit, but won't be by April ;-)

£175 a month with Eon for both gas and electricity. Think the electricity is about £60 so the rest is gas.

Thats only cos I am being really strict with heating, I keep telling the kids to wear a jumper, I feel mean but the bills used to be really high when we had the heating on alot.

I think mine will shoot up now with winter coming. i think its going to be double duvets etc and sleeping bags!
#20
Click 5 with British Gas can save you £200, look on their website to see if what they offer would help you save money over the winter months :-) xx
#21
probably better to just use a comparison website to see which company saves you the most based on your normal usage.

I pay £100pm for a 4 bed detached gas and electric combined. Though I do get a couple of rebates a year cos I overpay. I think its about £80 ish.
#23
I have no real idea as in 2006 was paying like £5-£8 a week combined gas and electric, then in 2007 with a flatmate paid about £8 a week electric(had no gas) then late 2007-mid 2008 had a shared meter and it was up and down but that was due to flatmates putting credit in different weeks each month and different amounts so couldnt be certain

But this summer paid about £1.30 a day electric and about £2.50 a week gas since the heating was off and I never used gas cooker

But when I was away for a month at family the electric bill didnt change from £1.30 a day despite flatmate working like 12 hours a day then 2 hours travel each way and sleeping most of the rest and only constant electric thing on was fridge and the odd light.

Large 3 bed detached

Gas - £50 per month
Electric - £40 per month

Gonna reduce both as currently getting more in credit with each.

I cant believe some of the amounts people are paying (£175-200 per month for just electric is amazing. Do they live in the North pole ;)
#28
I live in a small 3 bed end terrace. I pay £55 for gas and £60 for electric.
This is not enough to cover the winter months....but I cant afford to pay any more.
Everything has gone up by at least 25% , except my wages which have gone up 2.8%, What a joke., could not afford the bills last year, let alone this year! Country has gone to the dogs!!

We are paying 137.00 per month electric, we don't have gas. So, that is our only fuel bill. We have a 3 bed semi.

Don't know whether to switch or try and cap it - we are with British Gas (ironic being as we don't have gas !!)

Would appreciate some advice if anyone has any?

I used to work for npower and my hubby still does. BG aren't too bad for elec prices but they're the most expensive gas prices. most companies have stopped the price caps now. i switched from EON back to scottish power on a price cap tariff. there's a site you can go on to see who the cheapest is for you based on where you live and your consumption. i'll get the details off my hubby if you like?

I just switched to BG as cheapest by far with their CLICK ENERGY 5 prices (no cap). And £60 quidco too.

http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy.html

I pay 8.73p per KWH for electric and 3.43p for gas.

something wrong with your figure there, that is not click 5 figures, cause i know click5 elec is way higher than that

off last bill

electric - 21.082 pence per kilowatt for the first 1.37 kilowatts used a day, and 7.655 pence per kilowatt for the rest.
gas - 5.684 pence per kilowatt for the first 7.342 kilowatts used a day, and pence per kilowatt for the rest.

for some reason they have missed out the second tier on the gas

I am going to complain as I havent even started with BG yet (4th OCtober) and the prices above have gone up since my joining letter 2 weeks ago! They never told me of any price increases.

Will probably just bank the quidco and switch back to my previous supplier :)

i pay for my gas and electric together

Give them a ring & see if there's a cheaper tariff available that they can transfer you to if you're not signed up to a specific contract period with an current offer. I'm also with Eon on one of their online tariffs (since they bought out Powergen) & I only pay £75/month for a bigger house & I have an older type boiler (one with a hot water tank).

Plus Suze (#35) there's a number of sites where you can compare prices, just need your postcode & either consumption figures or just your monthly payment as the sites compare unit prices with your current supplier/tariff option & give you possible savings. online tariffs nearly always have extra discounts included. (I worked for an energy supplier for quite a few years as well). I'll add main sites in links to this post

http://www.switchwithwhich.co.uk/home.php?m=home&
http://www.energywatch.org.uk/help_and_advice/saving_money/index.asp
http://www.uswitch.com/energy/find-cheap-electricity-supplier.html

None of them are a 100% accurate & some calculate different discounts in different ways so it's always a good idea to compare results on a few sites. Also try separate gas/elec quotes & also dual combined supply quotes if applicable. Some will have standard charges others will have none but a higher unit figure but this doesn't mean total to billed will be higher & remember prices can go up at any time so best deal today might not be next week. Good luck & remember it always pays to shop around ;-)

I am just in the process of switching to BG on their dual fuel click energy 5 and received a letter with the prices on a couple of weeks ago. Just checked and the tier 2 GAS seems to have gone up by about 30% and the electric by 10%. I never got notified of this rise. Should I have done?

Letter on 12th September

Gas

2.504 tier 2
