Hi,

I've just got a new computer and wondered how much my old computer would be worth approx? The spec is as follows : -

Dell Dimension 8300

3.0GHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor with HT technology and 800 front side bus (1MB cache)
Windows XP Home Edition
Midnight grey mini-tower with 8 USB 2.0 ports, 4 PCI slots and AGP 8x slot
120GB 7200rpm Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB Databurst cache
128MB GeForce FX5200 8x AGP card with dual monitor support, TV-out via S-video and DVI
Dell 17" Analogue flat panel monitor
8x/4x DVD+R/RW & 48 x CD-RW
Dell 5650 Speakers with sub woofer
Integrated 5.1 audio
Dell 56k data/fax/voice modem
Dell enhanced multimedia keyboard
Dell 2 button wheel mouse
Microsoft work 7.0
Integrated 10/100 Pro Ethernet

Thanks for all your help

Regards
Neil

as above £150-£180

TBH its only the monitor that would make this sellable as a first pc or spare room pc. To check it is an lcd monitor isnt it? Otherwise I can pick similar specced base units up for £25-£30 from a reseller (admittedly with a wiped and formatted hard drive)

You sure you can get all that minus the monitor for £25 -30 ?

Can you get me one please, or forward their details to me via PM

The base unit only? Yes they are from office clearances, the only downside is the hard drives are smaller (usually about 40 gb) and with no o/s.

Personally i think for a buyer wanting a full set-up they are not the bargain they appear, you need to add peripherals such as keyboard, mouse speakers monitor etc plus they are usually "well used" ie left running 24/7 and used 8-9 hours hours a day.

I was looking at using something that cheap for downloading overnight, would be perfect for 25 notes :)

Wouldnt need any periphs, could easily hook my tv up to it when setting up the downloads for the night, is this a general thing or is it a local business by you selling them off ?

Its a guy who does office clearances, he gets paid per unit for secure data removal, not sure what he uses software wise for that but ive never been able to recover a thing even with software that will recover data off a formatted drive. The better ones he reinstalls windows on and sells on as ready to go systems, the mediocre ones he sells as base units with no o/s but will include a oem copy of windows from the manufacturer to use with the original coa if there is one, below spec such as the optiplex gx10's he sticks on freecycle
