Just interested really. I think mine is a bit extreme, and want to see what others pay/think.

Thanks.

Ooooh. I'm sort of nearly tempted to go on a meter, but there are five of us here at the mo, with quite a heavy water consumption. I moan that my bill is hefty, but at least I know what it's going to be!

I think you either have an olympic pool or are paying for the whole street.

Sounds like you have a water leak mate, could be anywhere, but £800 for a year is far too much!

I believe we get it Free because the Scottish government voted for it to be free & in any case it should be free.

ours is alomst £700 a year north west water 4bed detached

am having a metre fitted next week and if it isnt less over 12months they will remove it for us. Worth a try?
we will just go dirty lol
#22
No certainly no leak, I should know being an ex plumber and there was a leak out on the road where I live back last year but it was traced to some bungalows nearby so the water mains have been recently checked.

And you are right it is far too much but considred normal here in the South West.

Yeah they offer that here too, worth a think.

I thought the billed amount when not metered was based loosely on the size of the property (rateable value in 1989) - so for comparison it's interesting to know. Maybe they think we all have waterbeds!

Easy way to test for a leak under your drive, is to turn the water off underneath your kitchen sink, then go outside and see if the water meter is still ticking round.

Although the south west is the most expensive region for water, your bill should be £250-300 max.

Have you checked the readings? Maybe you really are paying for someone elses? My brother lives in a flat in a block and one person got the bill for the whole block for about four years, before someone ELSE queried why they'd never had a bill with the water company!!!

Thanks but have already done that.

If any of you can be bothered go to The South West Water website and have a look for yourselves you can calculate what it would cost to switch to a meter and you can compare it what you are paying now.

Phone your water company and ask, I would imagine it'll be fine to fit a water meter. £600 a year on water is far too much for just the two of you

i would try and get a monthly paid meter for your gas, electricty and water as i think you are paying excessive amounts, the standing charges are ridiculous in my opinion .... funny how these posts come up... i was just talking to my friend about this last night lol

mine is £333 a year for 1 bedroom flat in North East, 2 people. I always think its a but much for just two of us.

I have considered a water meter but unsure on how much I would save(if anything)

PS, think I will move to Scotland

We do pay for our water,it is included with our council tax bill,so to say it is free is complete nonsense
