Ok we've all had enough of the amount of iphone topics popping usually asking the same questions - I've jailbroken 3 iphones that have taken out a ligitimate contract and done multiple others where the user doesnt wish to take out the contract on O2.

For this method I will be using Ziphone as this is my preferred application - This is a tried and tested method however I will not accept liability should something go wrong...

Ok before we start you need to make sure you have the folowing applications:

Latest version of Itunes: Download it here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Ziphone: Doneload it here: http://download.ziphone.org/

When you've installed Itunes and opened the self extracting ziphone application you have everything you need to activate/unlock & jailbreak your phone..... just follow these simple steps:

***Edit for Boydent (blue scum) I left the original sim in through this process, remove it after you've finished and replace with sim of your choice***

1: Connect you iphone (switched on) to your computer via the usb cable included with the phone

2: Open Ziphone - Click "Do it all" (This will take a few minutes) upon completetion you will see you have activated the phone - most people think this is now done - however you are on old firmware and you will not have the application "Installer" on your phone

3. Connect to Itunes it may say that another phone is sync'd with this computer - just create a new phone.

4: Navigate to the iphone "home" screen within itunes and click update - this will then take you through the steps to upgrade your phone to version 1.1.4 (bare in mind that this is a 161MB file so may take some time to download - be patient, it will show you its progrss) Once downloaded Itunes will automatically install it onto your iphone.

5: You will notice that following the upgrade you will have the same screen as when you first switched on your phone - Itune has deactivated it! Simply open Ziphone again and repeat step 2 - it wont take as long as it did first time round.

Congratulations, you now have a fully unlocked, jailbroken and activated iphone that can be used on any network (except 3) on version 1.1.4 with installer on the home page.

6: Disconnect your iphone and find your way to Cuthroat Jake's thread regarding the best applications to install.

Thanks very much I'll be here all week, remember to tip your waitress.

The best bet is for people who have problems with the above/problems after doing the above to go to www.modmyifone.com

Lets jus clarify I cant help with every iphone problem that arises, there could be a number of resons he couldnt connect to the net, and I dont know if were talking about connecting via wifi or via edge/grps

The first thing that comes to mind is that the iphone wont have the correct net settings (they are dependant on your network)

Seems you now can jailbreak the 3G version.

What is the benefit in doing it with a Iphone 3G version since unlike its predecessor you have to sign up for the contract when you take it?
